Is this relic ok?

Really? I would like it if relics could not be debated here on TB. I really dont care for them but i would stick up for someone that does. Its totally bull that some lonely guy has nothing better to do than surf the web looking like a tough guy and putting down others.Get a life, this comment is not direct at anyone person just relic haters in general.

id hate to have such a small mind as both of ye, get a life ffs.. i hate when one guy asks for help on a relic and haters come along..

Pathetic..

Sorry for taking so long to post a reply, but I was busy 'relic'-ing my MIJ 'VI by working on a new composition.

--------

Hateful? What makes you think this wasn't intended to help the OP?:

There are two ways to 'relic' a bass, but only one of them will improve one's playing...

--------

BTW. Isn't it pathetic that capitalisation appears to be an endangered species..? ;)

Be sure to come up with a cool story for the irregular marks/dings, ie those not normally caused by normal playing. Make sure these stories include guys with samurai swords, Moroccan pirates, and an unusually large greyhound.

I also hate it when somebody posts a thread asking for opinions about a relic job and people get pissed when opinions are actually given. :rollno:

They weren't giving him opinions about his relic job, only about relics in general. And we've heard those opinions a million times before...you don't see the point, wear it by playing it so that it's "real," etc. At no point did he ask for that. I don't think there are many people on here who aren't tired of hearing that. It pollutes every single relic thread, no matter what the specific question is, and quite frankly, it's rarely actually on topic.

Speaking of on topic, I think yours is pretty dang good, especially for a first time, OP. I'd follow the "less is more" mantra, but overall not bad at all.

There was an ant-relicing thread awhile back specifically called "The Anti-Relicing Thread" specifically created as a place for those who don't care for relicing to express their opinions. As I recall, nobody had a problem with relicing advocates commenting in that thread. It was actually a pretty civilized discussion.

Predictably, someone couldn't take it and the thread was closed.

what else is new. everyone is so ****ing sensitive and politically correct - I mean ****ed up these days. if I did a relic and people hated it, I would love to have a debate about the philosophy of relics. instead it is just a debate about are you allowed to say that.

What is really sad in forums is that free speech is not understood in the forums, let alone general society. and most of us live in a western democracy to boot. the all or nothing, with me or against me, everyone on before we pull up the gangplank, etc etc. mentality is what is wrong with people in general. the forums are just a symptom. of course the problem with people thinking for themselves is that there isn't anyone to tell them what to think...

"Honestly, I was playing a gig at the local samurai bar and a Moroccan pirate's greyhound attacked my bass with a key mace, an Xacto knife, a big belt buckle and some sandpaper."

:)

:D
That's probably one of the most brilliant posts I've ever read in a forum since the 1980s FIDO net.
May I use this in my signature?

To the OP: I don't like it, it looks more like as if you lost it while driving your motorbike and a truck ran over it. It looks damaged, not "used".

I like the LOOK of "relic'd" basses and guitars. But that's because I often get fooled into thinking its natural. I dunno... I wouldn't own one, though I do kinda enjoy seeing them made, but in the end, i'd 1,000,000 times rather stumble upon a really used 2nd, 3rd, 4th hand instrument that was legit played for its entire life and shows it.

My Gibson came into my life slightly banged up and worn, and from playing it at some shows etc its gottn more worn in my hands. Every scrath knick, rub, dent, and divot have a story that I can recall (and many i can't) but it was never involving sandpaper and blow torches. Though I did light the nitro finish on fire with some matches at a bar one night. Thanks, Jack Daniel's.

What's my point? If you want this look, go to band practice, get hammered drunk, hit your drummer's crash, ride, toms, stumble around, land on the floor, inadvertently drag your axe around looking for food, throw it at the fireplace, pass out on the couch, and wake up to your "relic'd" instrument.

Such was the fate of my Epiphone and it was one of the more... awesome practices that we'd ever had, I think we wrote 3 songs that day.
