Is this to be expected from a "900 dollar" instrument?

Keep it or send it back?

Well Shucks.
Ibanez can't help me. They don't see the body as repairable, so they were totally awesome in offering me a replacement, but they have nothing to replace it with at the same price point. The best they can do is offer me an SR505 :[
Now you have proof from Ibanez that its bad, go back to the retailer. Either ask for a full refund (including any return shipping) or see if they can provide another replacement that might be in better shape. Keep hunting, the right one is out there.

I'm not sure but it looks as if a "used, open box" bass was sent to you. You said it was new. I'm not sure it is, looks like someone bought it, screwed with it and sent it back. I have an Ibanez with a similar finish but not dented and cracked like that.

I've learned not to order from a certain online retailer, as they sell their returned items as new. I went through this on three different basses with this company. It's pretty obvious they are doing this as the boxes were retaped, hang tags are missing, plastic cling on plastic parts are missing, fingerprints, dust and dings and scratches as well as additional shipping and handwritten labels applied.

Needless to say they are no longer my Friend.

Return the bass, hopefully you can get a "new" replacement. Ibanez is better than what you received.
Thank you for the heads up!:bassist::hyper::bassist: my Friend ;)

I agree, unfortunately I'm going to have to go refund instead of replacement, they don't have any more of them

The SR505 is an excellent bass, but the “Brown mahogany” finish sucks, flakes off without fail on most of them. If you could talk them into a partial refund or store credit, I guess I’d keep it if they have no better option. Kinda sucks, but if that’s the best offer......

no chance of a partial refund since they say there's nothing wrong with it.

I can't get another credit card, my ex shot my credit to poopie, luckily she didn't have a use for my sweetwater card, or she would have ran that up too
I'd try anyway. A lot of times you don't have to have good credit to get a card, especially with a limit less than 1k. Can't hurt. What's the worst thing that'll happen? They tell ya no and you're no worse off than when you started.

@BobaSeth and I share something in common... we both purchased an Ibanez SR805, from Sweetwater... pretty much the same same day, as a matter of fact...

... after almost week of waiting for it to arrive (my fault for assuming pre-Black Friday shipping follows the same rules of physics, as the rest of the calendar year), it's due to arrive, tomorrow. The case actually arrived, today... didn't open it, though. In no way am I stating that what happened to @BobaSeth represents how Ibanez does business, or how Sweetwater performs their 55 point QC check...

... but there's no need to crack open the box containing the case, if the Ibanez I selected (I consider it mine, only when I'm happy with it) enters my house in a similar condition... and I'm pretty sure my rep at Sweetwater understands this, after speaking with him, today... especially, with the huge delay in shipping... until late last night, the only scan I received was 'shipping label generated' for both parcels...

... I thought the ball only dropped on New Year's Eve?

Wish me luck... in the interim, here's hoping the Sweetwater pics match reality...
