Bass'ically......in general.......basses are just too damn heavy!!

Funnily enough I bought a Franken Tele guitar the other week which is heavier than any of my basses. It's 10lb almost exactly. Neck dive isn't a problem...... it actually wants to "sit up" when on the knee. I'm going to route out some wood from the back, put a thin piece of ply over the route, cut an F hole in the front and re-finish it in black.

I don't uderstand why they have to bore holes all the way through.
Just bore them 3/4 of 7/8 of the way from the back.
The front will look normal.

Now if the bass balances well after that.
Good!
But if it dives,now you got a problem.

Um... how do you bore holes part way through with a common drill and hole saw bits? At least the center guide drill bit could easily go through even if you stop outer saw blade circle from going through.

You'd need some fancy tool most of us don't own (router?) and a heck of a press stand and vice for it all.

I think it must be a result of the obsession with how much basses weight.

It is an effective way to get rid of some, more so than ultra light hardware I'd say.

On a different note I actually liked the holed J bass, well beside the side dot (holes) thing on the neck, this on the other hand truly looks horrible.

Maybe, but their solution will most likely result in neck dive and a less comfortable bass to play.
