Actually I don't mind the perforated bodies at all. I have warmoth chambered basses and they are so much more alive than traditional solid body basses that I have owned. I would not be reluctant to punch holes in a dead, lifeless bass.

Which raises the question - why do so many get upset when they see mods like this? Maybe the bass was a 12.5 lb lifeless turd before the mod. NOBODY would buy a bass like that but it is easy to criticize the creator of said instrument from afar. Maybe it was his / her last ditch effort to breathe life into a piece of firewood. Maybe it WORKED!

As long as you drill a proportional amount of holeage in the headstock, you'll be fine.

If that bass were stripped, and the holes rounded to match the edges, then painted, it would be a different result. Would look much nicer.
I'm amazed at all the people who think it's somehow honorable to play a 12 pound bass all night. Especially in the 21st century the move is to lighter-more powerful. It's a tide that's going to happen. And no one is forcing anyone to buy one. I for one like lighter equipment, I'm all in.

I think it must be a result of the obsession with how much basses weight.

It is an effective way to get rid of some, more so than ultra light hardware I'd say.

On a different note I actually liked the holed J bass, well beside the side dot (holes) thing on the neck, this on the other hand truly looks horrible.

I wonder why they are not drilling these holes at an angle in an attempt to get more weight reduction?

I also wonder if the holes could be drilled the long way through the body more weight but smaller diameter?

I like the idea just not necessarily the execution, so far weightisn't a problem for me just like to be prepared.

back in the 90's a 'friend' owed me a small chunk of cash. IIRC I had rebuilt an old super B carb for his old iron head and he hadn't come up with the cash. He wanted to pay me half in cash and trade a screaming yellow Aria superstrat for the other half. Since I really only had time into the job I took it to not have to talk to the schmuck ever again.
Anyways in a few days I was pissed off about it so I took the guitar apart so I could steal the trem for something else. Since I was cranky at the moment I grabbed the drill and put a bunch of holes in the body. Thinking it looked like swiss cheese I put a whole bunch more holes in it of a few different sizes. Half the body was in shavings on the shop floor when I was done. The next day I picked up a rattle can of Graffiti Yellow and re-shot the whole thing. Stuck it all back together and I thought it looked pretty funny. Bought a rubber mouse cat toy and epoxied it into one of the holes. Used it as a backup for a couple gigs before a guitar player buddy bought it at a gig for a couple hundred. I've thought about doing another one but I guess I'm just too lazy to hunt down a decent enough POS guitar.

Now they know how many holes it takes to fill an Ernie Ball.......
