I blame it all on Talk-Bass, where the constant obsession with weight fear-mongering is in almost every thread...
I can't believe that there's been two threads about basses with holes in them.... and what is the first result when i open Trade Me (the NZ version of Ebay) today......... what is happening?

and be wholly wrong
!Time to take up ukuleledude, more than half of TB is over 50. we NEED lighter basses to accommodate our arthritis, neck, shoulder and back issues![]()
. I went to see a guy play during happy hour over in Maui that has played for 30 something years. He was incredible
.Convenient built in carrying handle.
What kind of person does this? It's like buying a new car and tearing the doors off.
Steve Vai has been putting holes in his guitars for some time.![]()
See, here's the thing. That's an inexpensive (likely) Yamaha bass. It's not as though we're seeing pics of a '52 Fender with holes in it.
So, to take your car analogy to the next level.....
This is akin to seeing the "doors torn off" of a '93 Nissan Sentra. SO WHAT! If they tear the doors off of a vintage Ferrari, gimme a call. Until then, nutn to see here. Modding (or even destroying) ordinary everyday basses (or any other inanimate object for that matter) is just no big deal to me. Nobody cries when someone spraypaints a set of import Pearl drums. Nobody freaks out when a 90s Charvel guitar gets a scalloped fretboard. This is just not a big deal at all.
Having a little fun aside, I think it’s more that people are asking what’s the point of doing that. All it’s likely to accomplish is increase the likelihood and severity of neck dive. And I doubt anyone will seriously try to suggest neck dive is a good thing.
It's bound to be weight loss. But, yeah, I can see that creating other issues. That being said, many here seem to "mourn the loss" of ordinary basses that get hacked up by.... (shall we say) "creative"..... people.![]()
