Again, I'll wait until the Fender Custom Shop Heavy Relic version comes out, then I'll poach one from CL for substationally less.
Prior to that I didn't know that it was possible to perform 'Gastric Bypass' on a P Bass.

I just read the advert on CL.

You see, THAT'S what happens when you do too much acid!!!

That poor, poor bass. Can you imagine how beautiful it might have looked when it left the factory?

I've taken a ton of that $hit, and don't think there's been enough synthesized to make me want to do something like that.

That is the most fabulous relic job I've ever seen!

Believe it or not, time was when a Fender electric bass was not necessarily something to cherish. People sawed them up with no compunctions.

This is true, and I have no problem with seeing people who've done "interesting" things to insturments.
The problem is expecting that it's still worth $4700.

In all seriousness, if the rest of it is original, he could part it out and have close to 2 grand in vintage parts. Tuners, neck, pups, neckplate, pots, bridge. I've seen people doing restorations pay over $800 for the neck alone. That body needs to be used to keep someone warm this winter.

I was just thinking the same thing. Assuming he hasn't destroyed the insides the way he has the outside... he ought to part it out for $.

You know, if you think about it, that Bass could actually land the starring role in a really bad, 'After School Special', TV movie.
You know, at one time, it probably looked pretty nice. I'm guessing it used to wear Tort and Flatounds, played Motown, Blues, Rock, or maybe Jazz. Then it started hanging out with people who did drugs and had access to (gasp!) power tools.
An-all-too-often told tale, of a good Bass gone bad.

On a side note, any guess as to the brand of strings? I've never seen a set of flats with black silks on both ends.

Hell, I'd pay $100 bucks for an original set of stock 1950s Fender flats.
