Have played the following heads through an Ampeg 410 HLF:
Ampeg SVT 4
Ampeg PF500
GK MB800
Mesa D800
Fender Rumble 500

They all sounded different, But I thought the overall best sound was from the D800, SVT4 second. Actually I liked the PF500 as well, sounded deep and Ampeg-ish, but I never recommend them because I am leery of their reliability. The GK tried to bring the GK tone to the Ampeg cab, and I just didn't like the combo. Rumble 500 wasn't bad either, punchy as always, but didn't have the depth that the Mesa and SVT 4 had. The Mesa's deep switch into the 410 HLF filled the room with super deep bass and everyone made me turn it off. My guess is that if you hit the DEEP switch on the Mesa through the 810 everyone on TB, regardless of their location, will feel it. The drummer told me to sell all my other equipment and buy another Mesa as a backup for the first Mesa, i should use no other amp.

For my money, it was the D800.

you have to keep us posted if you get the D800. I'm dying to know how it does through that cab. I can only image how extraordinary will be the punch and depth.

One thing about the D800 though - the knobs are a little touchy. It's a really versatile head, therefore you will have to play with it - especially the voicing knob - to get your sound. Pretty much anything that comes out of the D880 IME is very useable, but the touchiness of the knobs can make getting a great tone a little more work than on other heads. But the range of sounds that can come from that head is extraordinary. and the power. wow.
