I've a NV412. Should I get an SVT810E?

Geee I'm wondering which side of the fence Jimmy is going to land on...

I gotta say that the fridge is my #1 favorite large venue cab for rock and new country. My NV410's gets quite a bit of use in medium sized venues, in studio and I also use one (410) as my main practice rig too. There's just something about the tone and presence of my Ampeg rigs that's "just right". I find I can dial them in quicker/easier (not sure why that is though...) and it's become a piece of mind issue for me. I was a long time Epifani devotee, but now I'm finding that I'm nearly always playing my Ampegs live.

And Jimmy, after hearing your preaching on the matter for the last 5 years, you're probably one of the reasons why! LOL

I have an Ampeg SVT 212 AV and I love it. I'll never give it up, I LOVE that cab.

That being said, I have a hankering for an Ampeg fridge as well. I've played through a few and every time I say to myself, "Self, we've got to get one of THESE!" It will live in my garage, so I just have to tilt it into and out of the back of my wagon. I have a couple of drum hardware cases that are just as crazy heavy, so I'm used to that part of the drill.

Jimmy, you should get a commission on every Ampeg product sold.

If you have the disposable funds and room to store the cab, then I say go for it. If it ends up not being your thing, an 810e should be pretty easy to move on the used market.

I love my NV610. While it's a great cab, I don't know if I'd agree that it's an "Ampeg Killer" as some people call it. As much as I love my Berg, the Ampeg is still a formidable cab. And at the end of the day, pound for pound it probably still puts out more SPLs than the Berg (but if you really are at the point where you need the 810e over one of the big NV cabs just for volume purposes, you should have PA support and a good set of earplugs anyway).

With that said, I'd love to try the Fender 810 or the Aggie DB810, because when it comes down to it, I've always been a horn guy.

Definitely don't need it... For volume or for any other reason . Just want it.

I personally prefer 12s to 10s in general...better definition with more mids. I find 4x12s too cut through the mix alot more in band situations etc

However them svts sound great and punchy so its a side ward s move imo. Ever thought of an ashdown 8x10? Theyre great sounding too...just not the ABMs...

Well done, Rod. Precisely the sort of thing I would do:D and I am sure you will love it. Should be a great match with the Super Bassman 300, especially since we both reckon the SB300 cops the SVT tone so easily. Let us know what you think, it is a pity we are not closer so we could compare the Ampeg and Fender neo 810s.

Yep. I went to the other end of the state and collected it yesterday. Tried it out briefly to check it worked but haven't really played thru it yet.

Yep, the extra height of an 810 makes it easier to tilt for sure. How does the Super Bassman sound through it, Rod? You must have played a few Ampeg fridge/SVTs in your time so it will be interesting to hear your comments on the comparison.
Jimmy is rather silent.....I think the pic of the Fender sitting on top of the fridge has sent him into shock.....:laugh:
Finally gigging my Fender 810 neo this weekend, had to wait for a gig where it didn't appear too much over the top;).

LOL! Shock not so much...just a little sad for the world ;)

I have not played a Super Bassman yet, and I assume you were asking Rod that question about how it sounds, correct?

At rumpus room volume it sounds great so far. I've a gig tonight at the MONA museum and art gallery. But it's a wedding so. ..... Don't think I'll take the 810-sadly. :crying::crying::crying:
The Super Bassman and a single Bassman Neo 115 cab will do it fine tonight. The next week I've got one restaurant gig on Wed night before me & my girl are off for a weekend away (no kids, no interruptions:hyper:), so we're REALLY looking forward to that. Only downside is thati won't get to try the Super Bassman/ SVT810 rig until the weekend after that. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I will do as best an A/B comparison of the SVT810 & NV412 asap.
Here's more to send JimmyM into shock horrors- I'm thinking of 'maybe' getting some Fender grille cloth and making up a new grill for the 810.
But I've got the 70s V4 also. .... so maybe I'll make up an Ampeg 'AV' style grille instead or also. Food for thought.
