I'm 31 years old and a pretty "hip" guy, for lack of a better term. Recently, I've grown mustache, it started as a joke to mess with my girlfriend but honestly, I've started to really become fond of it. At first it was a struggle, like the first 4-6 weeks of growing it in, people in my life REALLY seemed to take issue with it and that caused me to doubt myself, but I knew I had to persevere and see it through, and man am I glad I did. I find that it's making me act differently, like more mature I guess. I feel kind of distinguished and more knowledgable about the ways of life. Also I've found that my mustache commands a certain level of respect that wasn't necessarily there before. It seems like people are taking me more seriously now, particularly at work. It's an odd thing for a man my age to wear a mustache, I don't see it too often, most guys wearing a mustache seem to me to be at least on the other side of their 40's. I dunno, maybe I'm just being dumb, but either way, I like my mustache and I just may keep it around for a while.
  2. well done, now grow the rest of the beard.

and now to read the OP
  3. IMO growing a mustache is a very tricky thing to do!

If you go to classic, like tom selleck you just look like an old middle class american... (sorry, but you only see those in america nowadays, the rest of the world realised they look wrong!)

If you go to fancy you look like a hipster!

You really have to find a way that suits you, without being to classic or to hipster...

That is very hard to do.

Congrats! I'm 48 & if I shave i look about 15 years old. Get used to it because after a while you won't like the clean shaved look anymore.

Yeah I find myself bordering on looking like a hipster on occasion. I'm really unsure what to do with the sides. I like the idea of a handlebar mustache, but not completely rolled around, a la Rollie Fingers, but as you said, it's very hard to not look like a hipster, I wanna look badass, like a bare knuckle boxer!

  12. I grew a goatee just kinda for kicks several years ago and now I can't bring myself to shave it off. I'm 26 and I look like I'm maybe 21 if I'm clean shaven. Just beware that you might get used to it and essentially have a stache for life. I can shave off the botom have and just rock a mustache for a couple weeks. But if I shave the stache and expose my upper lip it looks super odd.
  13. For me the way you have it now looks really middle of the road american!

Not trying to be funny, but you only see mustaches like that in the USA now...

You should roll the ends a bit!

D'artanian most decidedly had a mustache, and a righteous one at that, but he wasn't even a musketeers, rather an historical figure that the 3 musketeers were based on. At least that's what I think.

I've worn just about every style of facial hair there is including a full beard that almost touched my chest. I find mustaches to be a pain in the @ss to keep trimmed up. I prefer clean shaven now but the wife says keep the 'stache so, there you go. Snip, snip... snip, snip, snip... better stop before I make it even worse.

Ooh, mustaches are great! I was in the same situation as you, grew a mustache for fun, but it looked exquisite. I have actually always wanted a huge, majestic, vikinglike beard, but genetics is a cruel mistress; If I don't shave for a while a goatee develops, but my cheeks look like they're completely smooth, only a little smudgey. Being 27, I kinda recently lost hope for a miraculous mid-twenties growthspurt in hair. So I settled for a truckerstache and long sideburns.

Had to shave them since i'm looking for a job though. Missed it instantly, intently and eversince.
