Spanked today s**t out of my first bass, Ibanez Gio, no string snapping whatsoever.
This sound like a valid point, I've always liked high action. I'll lower it and see if it helps.
High action would require a lot more effort to get a good 'pop' from the string, especially on the G. Unless that G is seriously fat, it's not going to last under those conditions, including what was mention about bridge angle.
My strings are so low that I get the 'pop' just using a more aggressive finger style. Of course you have to have a bass built and setup well enough to allow such low action because some basses just can't go there.
