Gibson Eb-2, basically. Or anything close. And no, not the midtown, because they didn't bind the f-holes.

Why is that stupid? I prefer unbound f-holes, as I find binding there just feels a bit like gilding a lily, and the 335, Casino, EB-2, Rivoli, Jack Casady, etc all are unbound, so it's hardly the standard. But is it really a major aesthetic preference? If I liked the bass otherwise it wouldn't be a dealbreaker.
I think there are better reasons to dislike the look of the Midtown - the body is not the correct 335 shape, the top is flat rather than arched, the neck extends farther into the body so upper fret access is limited - but this thread isn't about basses that we think are almost good looking but just a little off.
I agree with you about the EB-2/Eccleshalls, something about that 335 body on a bass really appeals to me. I think it works better with shortscales though - the new Gibson 335 bass looks a lot better than the Midtown to me, but the lack of upper fret access kills it.
There were some black EB-2's made, btw, but they're a lot rarer than cherry or sunburst. Black Rivoli's are easier to come by.
Not exactly something you've never seen before, but I'm loving the look of this bass. Even when I'm not playing it, I find myself staring at it... Only a few days old, so could be the honeymoon effect, but the look (and feel and tone) really speak to me.

Any old, really beat up Fender P. Preferably a dark color and solid colored p/g. Thats the definition of cool to me.

Pretty bass, but I never really bonded with it.
Poor ergonomics, IMO.
It was way too unbalanced toward the neck, and I had to support the neck with my left hand
to counter the headstock dive while stretching too far for the low notes, if that makes sense...
Plus it had a pencil neck like most Rics. :scowl:

Lakland US 44-60 CS (Markus Orange), and this one belongs (I believe) to MarkusBass, a TB'er. I read it's a 30" short scale.

I owned this one for awhile.
How did that bass sound? I always thought a 4005 (and/or the 4005/6 6-string version) would be the ultimate addition to a bass arsenal, just because they're so odd and rare...but I'm not sure I've ever actually heard one.
