J bass users... How do you set your tone controls?

Usually I keep both knobs equal. I only roll off the neck pup very slightly to get the nasal Jaco growl for some funk or disco, or roll off the bridge pup slightly and turn the tone
25% or less to get old school rock or Mowtown sounds.
Generally 75% of the time I just keep them equal to avoid
the 60 cycle hum. That will be changing though because I just got my hands on a Boss Noise Supressor! It works great
on the 50's P-Bass, and should do fine for a Jazz as well.

I only have a fretless jazz now, but I tend to say, have the bridge pickup on full, and neck pickup mostly cut and the tone control set to the middle. It never fails to produce a tight, burpy sound with a nice nasal vibe. I use that for pretty much everything I play, jazz fusion, rock, pop...whatever!

When I slap I might go 20-30% but normally it is rolled right off or close.

I have DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pups. My starting point is with the tone about at about 50-60% on. I don't know what value the cap is...

Both Volumes at full. No passive tone knob on my Marcus! I use the Marcus preamp basically to add a little more bass if I'm not filling the room and more snap if my strings are getting dull or I'm not cutting.

Depending on what I'm doing-

98% neck full, bridge off, tone full.

If it just happens that I'm using the Jazz for my Rolling Stones band thing, both pickups full and the tone rolled back to under 10% in conjunction with a foam mute under the bridge.

EQ set flat
Balance 60% - neck pup / 40% bridge

For live setting same as far as balance but varies on the EQ settings..

My fretless 4: both pickups full, tone at 50%, foam mute at the bridge. I play jazz with this one.

My fretted 5: both pickups full, tone at 50%, no foam mute. I play contemporary gospel with this one.
