anyone with an opinion, pm me!!

looking to upgrade my 08 highway one jazz, i am considering either the dimarzio model j's or the aero type 1.
im assuming its $75x2 for the jazz set of aero's?
where do you find these?

i guess i'd like to know your opinion if i should spend a little extra and get the aero's or the dimarzio's will suit me fine?

i really like my sound now but im sure a pickup upgrade will make it even better...
i play with flatwounds, keep the tone (greasebucket tone cntrl) down a half to two thirds, and favor the bridge pickup ever slightly above the neck, both up around 90%, um tube pre into a power amp into peavey pro 410. oh yeah, some compression, and thats it. -finger style mainly
staying in the low-mid end of the mix with two guitarists, keyboards/samples, and a controlled drummer(imagine that!!)
hopefully thats enough info to give you an idea
thanks!

The model j's have a big "muscular" sound if thats what you want, and the aero's are pretty transparent. The pickups are on opposite side of the tonal spectrum. Ever thought about Nordstrands or Fralins for that vintage sound?

Hey,
Was just wondering, I have an American Standard Jazz V, and was wondering which pickups would give me the standard Jazz Bass tone, that classic single coil sound? (I've narrowed it down to the NJ4's and Aero Type 1's from your reviews, feel free to point me in another direction though). It will be used passive, with a 0.47 cap and 250k pots.
It might be a long shot, but is there a P pickup you recommend for the standard P tone (4 string though)?

Thanks,

Jaydin

As far as I've found looking around the internet it would be the DiM Ultra Jazz - but even then it's not quite the same.

the set is not a direct replacement but you can make them work.

Why? you might ask

Because on a 4 string, the E has the entire low end of the spectrum. Deep lows, upper bass, and rich low mids.

If you were to just take that and extend it a string lower it would be a muddy farter.

The UJ are supposed to have more even tone distribution.

At first this annoyed me cause i miss my old 4 banger,

but then i realized that i want a reason to have another 4 string.

If your 4's sound like 4's then your 5 will be a magical beast unto itself that will want to be played.

I play rock in a band. I see that the Nordstrand N4J got a really good review. Will such a pickup fit nice for a loud rock-band setting? I'm currently with the default modern Fender J-Bass pickups...

Or.. should I look into getting those Dimarzio Ultra Jazz?

i haven't tried the others, but if you like low end, the seymour duncan quarter pounders have almost a huge, p-bass low end on a jazz.

I play in a modern rock/metal band, and Ultra Jazz pups in series work extremely well for that type of music - great for an AIC or RATM type sound...

Can anybody give a me a suggestion for fender marcus miller 4 PUPS replacement. the stock PUPS is noisy. The bass itself is powered with active electronics..And I dunno what is the best for that bass. Well I love bright and deep low growl.
any advice??
Thanks

I´m wondering a little bit, because many Posters ask for direct Replacements for Fender V String Basses and most of the Answers is going to the SD Basslines Quarter Pounders, or Bartolini also..

I asked for them in another Thread. What about these Seymour Duncan Basslines?

SJ5S-67/70

They are direct Replacements for Fender V-String with exact the same String Spacing Dimensons are shwn with the Link --> Neck 101 mm, Bridge 104 mm (Sorry, don´t know in Inch)

Any Suggestions about them? I want to upgrade my MiM Jazz Bass 5 with them and I´m expecting an Improvement...:)

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger for a set of Nordstrand Jazz Bass NJ4SV Hum Canceling with a sadowsky pre-amp in my 2007 Jazz Bass Deluxe... is this upgrade worth the investment / return or should I just go with a set of Ultra Jazz with the stock Fender Pre-Amp. Total upgrade will run appx $500...
Not a big fan for the 'mid' control on the fender and considering the with the VTC from the Sadowsky.
What say you? Thanks.

I added Dimarzio DP123 model J's into my bass today. Definitely an improvement, big, powerful town. Not very vintage, but nice nonetheless, one thing i want to add is that these are very hot pickups. The actually would clip the preamp on my peavy, even when plugged into the low gain input. I had to use my BBE opto stomp to control the signal so the amp wouldn't break up. The other option was to play with the volumes at 6-7, which aint gonna fly.
