Many of you are proving my point, over and over -- these days, it's all about image with a lotta folks... and they're taking the bait.

If Mr. White can get gussied up with the pay-attention-to-me dyed hair and a vintage suit... strike a dead-eyed gaze for a press photo... and send out one image which make his fanboys scream about how sharp or cool he looks, he's accomplished his mission and pacified his handful of followers. He's a Kardashian with a guitar -- a Guitarashian!

Everyone is "proving your point"--as long as you continue to ignore the discussion of Jack White's music in this thread, the examples provided to you of "image' being a major part of all popular music since at least the start of rock'n'roll, and your own hypocritical critique of Jack White's look. p.s I think maybe one of the things I also like about Jack is the fact nothing of his newer stuff REALLY blows my mind like White Stripes does, but still, it's good stuff... fun to listen to and he's keeping at it, workin his ass off

Say... speaking of Jack White... I'm definitely more of a fan of his earlier stuff; but have much respect for all that he's done since then...

I've often thought he had a pretty unique sound, but yesterday it hit me (and I've yet to hear Mr. White mention this musician)... I hear A LOT of Jeremy Spencer from Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac in Jack's singing and playing...

Anyone else ever pick up on that?

Yeah, I was hardly a super fan or anything. Just thought he was ok and did things in a somewhat different way - and respect his success. Saw him once live (2014) and it was a good show. He's growing on me more now.

BTW the one time I saw him - was surprised that he had a full band including bass - as I had not followed him post White Stripes:

Hardly worshipping him. The real issue for me is I see the OP (who I rightly or wrongly assume to be somewhat new to bass - not being familiar with unlined fretlesses or fretless being used in rock) and so many feeling the need to dump on what he or she likes. Obviously fine to not care for a particular artist but some of the expressions strike me as petty/sanctimonious.

Image has always been a part of music ever since music started. You think those old opera singers from the 1500s and 1600s didn’t get all gussied up for a show? Absolutely they did! Otherwise I agree 100% with everything you said. And your John 5 picture is post of the week! Hilarious, man!
