Jackson 5 String...

Hey Everyone,

Was looking online at a used Jackson 5-String concert bass, and noticed that there's not too many Jackson basses out there. I play in a Def Leppard tribute and Rick Savage is using Jackson basses now (according to JacksonGuitars.com). I have a Jackson DK2 Dinky guitar and absolutely love it, but I haven't played a Jackson bass yet, and there doesn't seem to be any in my area. So if anyone out there has played a Jackson bass, can you give me a recommendation or any feedback on the instrument?

Thanks!
Dave

I would recommend the CMG,Model Series Charvel/Jacksons,Futura Pro or XL. These are ones I own or have played. Any custom shop or made in Usa or Japan are worth a look and if it has shark fin inlays, its probably worth buying. Good luck on your hunt!

yes Dave, find one of these:

Ive seen very few 5 string jackson basses. The 4 string basses where very popular during the 80s. Ive owned a couple of the concert basses with soapbar emg pups and active eq. Nice but they had a deserved reputation for developing scratchy pots. Much more so then other brands useing emg pups and active eq's on their imports. Dunno why the Jackson version had this problem. I do think they had a little bit heaveier rock sound then other brands useing the emg soapbar pups and active eq's that I compared it to (spector, esp ltd, schecter) at the time. 1990's.

Not so sure I want to get rid of the blue one , I have the blue Jackson tuned to C G C F and my 3B tuned D G C F so I can just switch basses and tweek my amp settings . The 5 string is too big for my kid (she is about 8" taller than the bass) so if anything the 5 string will get sold or traded

how about a bump for this older thread...now I have 2 C/J 5stringers thanks to a last minute cheap ebay bid+win :)

the red one is a non-catalog'ed Eliminator5, only made for a 1/2 year in 1991 before the Jackson Concert5 took over for 1992-93.

.now I have to find a BLUE fusion5 to make the series complete as a USA red/white/blue theme.
