Jackson launch competition to Ibanez Mikro!

October is the set release date for the new Jackson Concert Bass Minion JS1X model.

They have almost the exact same configurations as the Mikro's which means 28,6", 22 frets, fret board radius 12", 38mm nut and P/J pickup configuration.

The difference comes in choice of body wood where the Jacksons are made of poplar the Ibanezs are made of mahogany, in favor of the Jacksons though these are equipped with graphite reinforced necks.

Finally the Minion bass has jumbo style frets, while the Mikro has medium frets.

According to Thomann (Europe's biggest instrument store) they are going to be just ever so slightly more expensive than the Mikros.

Absolutely, I for one welcome more sub-short scale basses on the market, especially 28,6" scale basses which has shown to be my favored scale length.

I think I'd rather invest in one more Mikro though, since I honestly think, that even with Jackson's bold color options, which I personally also welcome, they are butt ugly design wise, and beside that I also prefer mahogany over poplar as tone wood.

Haven't experienced any instabilities with the Mikro's necks either, so for me the graphite enforced neck in the Minion is not going to do much either in the Jackson's favor.

Also personally prefer the medium frets of the Mikro to the Minion's jumbo frets.

Finally, at least in Europe, it seems that the Jacksons are going to be ever so slightly more expensive, even if it is by such an insignificant small amount that it is practically not counting as a factor when considering which of those two basses to buy.

Well, actually the reason I chose this color, was not to scare people away from buying the Minion and go out and buy a Mikro instead, but because I actually love the color neon green myself.

Which is interesting, because the Jacksons have always had the reverse p at least since the late 80s. Odd they would change that...

A guy near me has a Dean with this color, even the neck and freboard and this color. Only wants $100 for it. I want to go buy because I found an old Peavey amp that I can dial in a 1980s metal vibe with.

Is the Mikro that good and sells well enough that it warrants Jackson making one as well?

If so, I may look around locally for one. I've seen them pop up on Craigslist here every so often.

I got one! Lol. Spotted in the local guitar shop. Feels really solid. Goodbweight for a bass that size. VERY impressed with the neck. Smooth and straight. Very comfortable in the hand. Versatile tone options from simple setup. Played a whole set with it last night at a drummerless gig with our singer. Clear tone. Cut through the mix. Sound man was real impressed and since he was about 5' tall he loved the shorter scale (he too was a basssit). Looking forward to more gigs with this little guy!!
