Jaco Tribute Bass Build

LOL! I'm just kidding about the language difference. I used to live in the UK. Small things like U in color remind me of good times as a 20 year old.
I assumed you were, espcially since you mentioned living there, but a potshot is a potshot.....
Last night, I did a few corrections and tied up some loose ends.
For instance, I bought new neck plate screws, and they required relicing.
New from the box
After a trip to the grinder and a bath in etchant.
The only modern convenience featured on this bass will be strap locks. I know it probably makes THand crazy, but two of my basses, in that past have met the floor due to a lockless strap. I did the best I could do by relicing them.

I also went back an resoldered the correct coloUr wires on the hot portion of the pots. Thanks for the correction, THand!

The bass, after all parts, setup, case, strap, and epoxy neck/defret, will run me like $1,900.00
The bass will be finished around Christmas. My end is pretty much done. It's waiting for my luthier to come back into town, and a month-long neck job that will take the time.

Jaco would probably use strap locks if he were still around, so I don't think it violates the spirit of what you are doing.

I found a guy in Jacksonville who does the plate stamping. THand, am I neglecting any other details?

You know,I was sitting here looking at that picture of you with it strapped on and thinking something doesn't look right. Then I realized its the fingerboard. It looks too new. Everything has a very nice aged warn in appearance but the fingerboard. Don't know what you'd do to it,but it's just something I noticed.
maybe roughing it up with some 300 grit sandpaper might do the trick. think of what scales jaco used and what notes there are, and maybe sand it down a bit.
I really don't want to work the fret board as I have no idea how it will affect Kevin's defret and epoxy job. Hell, I can see if he will allow some of the frets to take off small pieces of finger board when he defrets her.

Since you are lucky enough to have Kevin doing the neck for you, I would ask him to put something on the back of the headstock like he did when he rebuilt Jaco's bass.

Maybe having him say he used the same process as he did for Jaco and say when and where he did it.
It doesn't really follow the exact replica idea, but would definitely add to the coolness factor and set it apart from anybody trying to make a copy in their kitchen!
It will also maintain that you aren't trying to be fraud, but are just doing everything in your power to honor him.
I imagine alot of CS owners would rather have a neck that was done and authenticated by Kevin
I know that I would rather have your bass that a CS (and I would LOVE to have a CS Jaco bass)!
