I showed up last night, not knowing if I made it there before they closed. Kafman/Daenzer has “loose” hours, so you never know if and when someone will be there. Being in a traffic jam exacerbated my anxiety. It’s not that KD is hours away, but it’s an extra 20 minutes of driving. I’m trying to save $ for guitar parts; not gas. Anyways, Jesus the lord almighty was smiling on me as I rounded the corner of the parking lot to see the KD shop door open with lights on. (Phew!)
I walk in and Chris is there by himself. I was kind of bummed, because I wanted to see Kevin’s face. So we check in my fleet of basses, awaiting Kevin’s touch. Yes, I brought in 3 basses (Jaco, Joan Rivers, and one of my EB Sterlings). I would’ve had my red P Bass, but I’m fixing a pot issue. I made it easy for them, as I furnished printed out sheet of directions for each bass. I trust Kevin, but I don’t want him to have any questions about what each bass needs. My plan was that since I'm bringing them so many basses at once, they might give me a "group rate"

.
Just as I check in my Jaco, the man himself arrives at the shop! Chris tells Kevin about the build, and almost like he knew, he goes over and selects the right case my Jaco is in. He liked the paint job and seemed happy about the whole tribute. The fact that it wasn’t a Fender CS model seemed to impress him. It was funny, because he’s like, “I feel bad that these folks spend well over $4k for something that was not done like the original.” Kevin said that the neck defret/epoxy is definitely not a favorite job of his. Then we talked about how the time Kevin had a hernia and was laid up. Jaco comes to his place and is like, “Dude, I hear you’re sick, let me cook for you!” He proceeds to make some sort of quasi-chicken noodle concoction. Of course he basically destroys Kevin’s kitchen, and stuff is scattered everywhere. LOL! I was laughing that Jaco thought a hernia was similar to having the cold or flu. LOL!
They said my Sterling and my Joan Rivers would only take until next week, but Thanksgiving is just around the corner, so I doubt I will see those until December.
Can’t wait!
