Jaco Tribute Bass Build

I would vote for James Franco.

Oh yeah! He's much better suited. I remember what he looked like in Pineapple Express. Spot on Jaco with the head band!

I finally was able to play my Jaco at practice last night. I always struggle with fretless, because it requires a bit more thought to execute.

Also, I tend to fiddle with knobs on Jazz basses to dial in a decent tone. I'm more of a P Bass kinda guy, so I'm usually in a "set it and forget it" mentality. About an hour later, we finally came to a happy medium.

While this bass will never be my main go to axe, it will remain in my stable, as it's fretless "maw" is unmatched.

I will be going out to Jaco's park to take pics in a few weeks.

Glad to hear about that!
Can wait to see the pics, man.

I live 5 minutes from Jaco's memorial park it's beautiful tribute to one of the most influential musicians of our time. To all who come visit Fort Lauderdale FL I'd be more than happy to give anyone a tour of the park and all the spots Jaco hung a, as well as some people who were pretty close to him.

Well, to complete this thread, I took my Jaco to the Pastorius park in Oakland Park. It takes like 20 minutes to get there, but it is my Graceland. :)

The first Jaco mural. It's huge and awesome!

This gives you an idea of the size. Too bad the restroom door is his leg.

You can easily see this piece of beauty heading north on Dixie Highway, just North of Oakland Park Blvd.

This is my concept photo of what Jaco would do if he was still alive and had the BOD. You'd probably find it sitting on a park bench somewhere in this park. ;)

To cap off this adventure, I also decided to revisit the place that inspired me to do this tribute. It's hallowed ground, and I'm so happy that this is so close by.

Thank you Jaco for your inspiration.

Nice photoset, I wasn't aware that there was a Jaco Pastorius park! Even though (maybe heretically around here) I am not a Jaco fan, I can appreciate that inspiration that led to this build. Thanks for sharing the journey in this forum!

Man! This is a wonderful ending for this awesome thread. It is so inspiring... I want to be there sometime in my lifetime.

It's 3:39 a.m. local time in Mexico City and I'm taking my Jazz Bass and play right now!!! (with headphones of course :D)

Thanks a lot for sharing this. A tear is just about to pop from my eye.

WAY cool, dude. Nice pics. Now you just gotta learn to play like him!

How have I never heard of that park before?

Play like Jaco? One can only wish. However, his work has inspired me. During a recent recording I did in my old band, I started incorporating harmics, A La Jaco in one of the songs.

The park is still in the middle of construction. Maybe that's why.

Anyways, it was cool to be there. I was thinking about doing pics in the front of Jaco's boyhood home, but I didn't want to come off as a stalker.

LOL .......... You won't be the first. .... About 4-years ago the woman that owns Jaco's moms house had it for sale for about $350-K because it was Jaco's boyhood home. .... Don't think it sold because of that, if it sold at all. ......
Pictures look great and a nice year and a half old thread comes to an end. .... Enjoy!
