Jaco Tribute Bass Build

As I've stated before, I don't like "relic'ed" basses, but this build is so much more. Fantastic job on the bass and on documenting its progress. Your passion for the project and attention to detail truly makes it a tribute.
A little under $1,800. The labor for the neck was the $$$ part. Nearly a 1/3rd of the total cost.
Nice job, mate. Sounds great too. I did the same as you and built my own.

As far as I know, it was some kind of accident that happened when he threw his bass away. Somewhere I red that before the gig the roadmanager (or someone else of the crew ) suggested to catch the bass after Jaco´s encore. So Jaco and them decided to do this and it was planned that Jaco should throw the bass over the amp(s) on the right side to him. So the crew guy positioned behind the amp(s) waited and what happened...?.... well is what you saw in the video. Jaco didn´t remember wich side to throw his bass and he hit the wrong side..
.... . After that, a piece of the Headstock was broken out and Jaco just said very relaxed,....' oh, year, we got to glue that....' . So that´s what I red about this incident.Sorry for my poor English, but I´m from Germany. ´ hope this could help a bit, too.

I read that too. I still think the story of how the BOD became smashed into pieces is still the best Jaco story.

" trying to play on his bass...? Yes, indeed, that´s one of my favorite typical Jaco-ish Stories, too. Especially since it is a story that didn´t end up too bad and is in some way funny, too.

I think you should go all the way, and remove the serial from the headstock completely.
Then relic the neckplate, and stamp Jaco's serial number there
EDIT: That says 57308, which is on the bass found by BP magazine and rebuilt by Kevin. It is supposedly the serial for his "fretted" Jazz originally, and the serial for his Bass of Doom was supposedly 64437.
So....how about asking Kevin, "did he switch the plates?"

Holy back from the dead!
Right now, I'm on the other end of the bass spectrum building an old Gene Simmons bass he used in the early 1970's.
It will be a trip to have these two sitting next to each other in a picture.

I'd love to see a repro of the post rebuild of the BOD, the one that Kevin glued together and laminated a quilted top...
Maybe if Robert Trujillo agreed, he would let Fender Custom Shop do that if anyone is willing to part with the $$$.
