Jacos bass - where?

Very interesting. I wonder since it was refurbished, what distinguishing marks it still has that lead it to be found, that it was indeed Jacos. I'm also curious to know the price that Trujillo would sell it back for.

If I recall, while the bass is indeed within Trujillo's possession, I read somewhere that the bass belongs to Jaco's family and Trujillo is the "caretaker" of it as it were.

I actually like it that the bass is being taken care of a bassist rather than put in a museum. Makes it a bit more fulfilling as it were...can't find the correct word.

Well the first article says that he signed a contact stating that he'll relinquish it for the price paid. Just curious as to what that is.

I like that too though that it's getting played by a well known Jaco fan. It's fitting.

How much different would that Jazz sound after being smashed to bits like it was? I understand a well known New York luthier/repairman did an extensive patch job on it. I heard Will Lee playing it on youtube...but that doesn't really count. I don't want to buy it. Just curious.

The first link has a quote from Trujillo saying that he has, in writing, that the Pastorius family can buy it back for the same price, at any time.

I agree with everything you said. I would rather it was in a museum, like Jim Bowie's knife. But at least it's still in existence; at least it's not firewood, or lost, or covered in decals, with "RAWK ON!" cut into it with a pocketknife. Jaco lived a dissipated life, and his death was a parable. Tragic. His bass was almost lost forever...this is marginally better.

He can!!! All he has to do is pay Bobby Trujillo the amount that he purchased it for.
I actually wonder if the Pastorius family actually has the funds to get the bass back? And, why wouldn't they? Damn, I know this sounds like I'm being a nosy-ass but, I wonder if the Pastorius family has actually made a considerable amount of money, due to his name, and musical talent? I've seen other families in the same boat that's had a famous loved one pass away, and it benefited them immensely. It's just hard to fathom that there's not actually a h-u-g-e bidding war going on for a big-budget movie on his personal life, and musical career. And, I wonder how much Trujillo actually paid for that bass? My answer is $90.00. Exactly what Jaco paid for it.:D

He had to sign a contract to say "I will give you this bass if you give me enough money." Really?

I kind of dislike how the article made it seem like he was being nice to the family by keeping it locked in a nice safe for them, but he's really out playing it and using it.

Firstly, "it's nothin' personal, it's just business." Secondly, I'm actually glad Trujillo has it. If it weren't for him, who knows where it'd be? Pete Wentz may have bought it instead :hiding:.
