Yeah, the CS-800 would flap anybody's pants without boosting the bass control. It would also probably survive a nuclear blast.
I like the spirit of this thread. I had to click in to find out what "Janky" was all about. Sanity points awarded to all who play what is available without breaking your budget!!! Needless to say, but it doesn't have to look good to sound good...
lol, wow-thats actually quite a formidable rig, I used to run a very simular set up...essentially it was a A.M.P. pre driving a mark1 CS-800 (like yours) which drove an EAW 18/2x10 cab
Ugh, I don't envy your schlep. One of my bands uses a cs 800 for the PA. Those things ain't light, even by led sled standards.

Believe me, if it were two years ago when I was just starting on bass, I would have snatched it up in a heartbeat!
Oh heck, the description (from your profile) is worth sharing too:
"Sansamp 1.1 preamp used in the send/return of a Carvin BX-1200 bass amp, this amps output is bridged in mono and drives an 'upright' 1970 Sound City 4x12 PA cab. the cab's been retrofitted with (4) Eminence 16 ohm 'Swamp Thang' speakers (this cab is used for high power 'mid bass & mids') For lows I take a DI feed from the Carvin and feed it into a Parametric eq which then feeds a Crest FA-1201 power amp thats bridged in mono, this powers a double 18" cab which has been retrofitted with (2) Eminence Definimax 18's. The mid cab is rated up to 600 watts in the 100-5khz range. The low cab can handle up to 1600 watts in the 30-125 hz range"
Question: How are you using the PSA 1.1...as a clean preamp, as a distortion generator or ??? I have one that I use almost exclusively with guitar, it's an incredible sounding preamp, but I haven't found the same level of satisfaction when trying to use it for bass.
Not really what I use for playing, but as my GK 212 came in today and I don't have my HA3500 head at home I had to build this teststack:
Laney 30W combo, head used to power the GK cab. Still went ridiculously loud, couldn't turn it up all the way.
Next to it is my first bass, a second hand DeArmond. The strap is from my Guitar Hero guitar, couldn't find the real strap even though it's been on the guitar since I've had it, the dog must've ate it or something...
And that's the fingers I tried to play with. I managed to cut myself pretty bad the day they delivered the cabinet. The doctor first thought I could've cut my tendon. And I did feel something snap that I normally don't when I happen to cut myself, but it was probably a vein. Scary moment there though...

I lost my strap and found a guitar hero guitar in the trash and salvaged that strap. Hope your hand heals....that kind of stuff sucks.
Hey Bill, I've always liked how tubes bring such a warm yet natural sounding gritty sustain to electric guitars, basically I was looking to combine those characteristics with tight yet concussive low frequencies then marry the entire thing to something with switchable patches, seems the Sansamp fit the bill pretty well since it's midi plus has a tube like quality (and didn't break the bank too severly). To match the Sansamps characteristics I was looking for a 12" guitar speaker that had good 'guitar' lows yet slightly rolled off highs -the Swamp Thangs fit this criteria perfectly however had the added bonus of decent power handling and extremely high sensitivity. Anyway in answer to your question, you're right-the Sansamp is basically used as a distortion generator/tone enhancer but allows setting changes on the fly, to me the overall sound is bass nirvana however since tone is highly subjective I'm sure there are those who might frown on my aproach Anyway my friend have a wonderful day and take care.

As I mentioned, my PSA 1.1 (with MIDI Moose) is in a guitar rig...PSA 1.1 into a LittleMark III for added tone control and power into an Avatar Vintage style 2x12 loaded with a Celestion G12M-70 and a Carvin (Eminence) Vintage 30 clone.
If I used it for bass, a setup like yours sounds about right!
Amazing -between the Sansamp, the LittleMark and the two differently voiced speakers you're probably able to go from Hendrix to Geddy Lee in a single step...very cool yet logical rig
