Janky-A Rigs of Doom

I've run through a 4-channel Peavey pa head, into an SP-5 pa cabinet with a disconnected horn and a 15" Scorpion, a few times at band practice. It actually sounds pretty good, no worse than my early 90s TKO 115 combo, anyway. It might actually grunt a little better, in the best possible sense of the word. Lots of visual jank though.

Was going to toss out an unused drawer from an old Sauder cabinet, and had a pair of 4 ohm Eminence legends..... A few beers and a 10 watt Kustom guitar amp. Well an hour or so later I have a janky bedroom amp to noodle around on my Kala

Sweet DIY rig basscooker! Reminds me of those old Crate combos and cabinets that looked like shipping crates 
I had the TNT for sale locally for 100 bucks. Yesterday I had several people that said they wanted it but wouldn't drive 20 miles to get it. Last night, we had a band practice for a group for which I am the drummer. I had the amp out and let my friend use it. It sounded fine . I decided just to keep it . Today, I had the idea to put my GK can on top and run them together. Nothing sophisticated, just good old grunt!

I just re-read all 26 pages of this thread. Three things: 1) it's still awesome; 2) let's get some more jank in here and not let this one go all necro; 3) Did anyone notice that chalked-on so-called Choadhammer became the Chodehammer at one point? Maybe when Bugeyed Earl passed the mantle of Choad curatorship on to his bandmate, that bandmate found a way to rub off and re-chalk the name in his/her preferred spelling. I prefer Choad, myself. It looks like a word that should appear in an olde Englishe type-face.

Have you googled either of those words to see what they mean?
When I started playing, an Acoustic 106 (with the 140 head) was a rig that caused envy, the 406 cabinet (with the 450 head) more so and a 301 (with a 370 head) meant you were a Pro!
No...I learned what they meant in the relentlessly vulgar homophobic/homoerotic frontier that is male high school and college humor (pre-internet era for me). For a usage example, see the youtube video of Jack Black singing "Kickapoo," in the "...party zone" segment of the song. Plenty of context cues!
It's a great name for a silverfish-feeding, pit bull-chasing bass amp. I wish I'd thought of it.

Don't know if anyone else noticed that, you're the first to mention it, good eye! I saw the Chodehammer's current custodian over the weekend at a show but didn't get a chance to do a welfare check, I'll have to find out how it's doing...
Funny you should mention the typeface, I originally conceived the name when a friend was looking for ideas for his fishing boat, and I specified that it should be in a Motorhead-esque font. My alternate suggestion was "The Filthy Whore," even though I thought it might be better suited for a pirate ship. He still hasn't named the boat and doesn't ask me for advice anymore...
Let us know how the old Chode is doing.... that thing is somewhat of a legend here on TB....
My own TKO, a few years newer than the Choad(chode)hammer, happens to have a grille cloth still in good condition and I don't want to deliberately relic it to create space for a name. But it definitely fantasizes about being the 'hammer, kind of in the same way I fantasize sometimes about being Buford T. Pusser from "Walking Tall," or maybe Jason Statham.
Also, way back in this thread there is a picture of an early CS800 power amp driven by a Peavey rack preamp, in a big ol' homemade rack box. My TKO was suitably impressed by that too. It's kind of like the Schwarzenegger terminator in the movie "T2: Judgement Day," heavy, oversized and outdated but still able to whip your ass.
Re: your friend's boat, maybe you could sneak up to it sometime and just paint an umlaut on the transom, so that whenever he does name it the umlaut will end up over some random letter, preferably a consonant. Isn't it over the "n" in Spinal Tap?

I own some Peavey silver fin classic combos. They definitely are worthy of all the affection and kudos for heavy duty they get!

Janky pair of rigs. The left fresh back from a jam spot it's been at for years. I'm not in a band for a bit, so the jank is home for a while. That Power Block is uuuugly and in your face rude, but in a mix it's fantastic with whatever the janky stock pickup is in the Bronco. With my nicer '91 p/j Ibby sr800 it's a different beast but still workable. Of course the mb200 sounds better, duh, but the rigs (minus basses) cost me $350 and $450. The mb200 was the $100 difference.
Edit. Actually, I remembered that wrong. The 350 is the rig with the power lock INCLUDING the bronco. Soooo minis basses, $250,$350.

I come bearing bountiful jank. I slapped this little number together for our past few band practices, just to try something else besides my teal-stripe Peavey TKO 115S.
It's the guts of a Dean Markley K-20 guitar practice amp pretending to be a bass preamp, driving a Peavey M-3000 monaural power amp via its line-out jack. This in turn drives a Peavey SP-5ti PA cab with a 15" Scorpion and a blown horn. The pedal is an Ibanez CP-5 "soundtank" guitar compressor, always on. The K-20 "preamp" can do a pretty clean, deep hi-fi bass tone on its clean channel, surprisigly, but to me the real nasty jam comes with low gain settings on its distortion channel. Pretty decent dirty midrangy P-bass tone.
It's an 8 ohm cab, and the M-3000 delivers 130 watts into 8 ohms. It's not appreciably louder than the TKO, but it is dirtier. I'd like to try it into a 2 x 15, with a couple of 4-0hm 15s wired in parallel....because the amp is 2-ohm stable and delivers 300 watts into a 2-0hm load. Maybe someday.
Playing bass into a rig containing a 3-color LED signal meter is awesome, especially when that meter is on an unracked power amp sitting on the floor and leaning against the speaker cab. The LEDs provide visual confirmation that I am bringing the rock and roll.
