Janky-A Rigs of Doom

Peavey is only janky when bounced down flights of stairs a few times, then only truly if it has to be repaired.
Thnx! I hope to be able to clean the crap out of the gap on that BW. if not, I've already found a replacement 18 that works well in a smallish box, and has over three times the excursion of the BW, while being just as efficient. Those old BW 1801-4 drivers only had about 2mm of excursion.
Nice, Most of the time with these old black widows you can just take the magnet off the basket, clean the gap on the magnet and voice coil, remount the magnet and be good as new. I've bought a few supposedly blown black widows I've brought back to life this way. The foam piece in the magnet degrades over time and gums up the voice coil causing the issue, speaker will sound crispy and such till its cleaned out.
HA! awesome. Funny thing is This whole stack was scored for cheap off CL. I only grabbed it because one had a 4 ohm 1502 black widow I wanted to restore an old 1516 cab that was missing the original BW.
Steel Sound 212, Hartke 410, etc. Mismatched drivers and impedance be darned!!
My janky SX P. Most of the jank was self-induced. I bought it to tinker with and it just got out of hand. Tried to make my own headstock decal and that failed miserably.

There certainly is something to be said about DIYing (or at the very least, Kitting) one's own instrument. A sense of pride, perhaps? Or just the fact we get something akin to our own "Signature Model"? I'll take either one!
BTW, I like the name "Jankenstein".
I have to say, every time I check my new TB alerts and see that someone's made a new post in the Janky-A thread, I think "Oh boy!"

I'm afraid I don't have a pic. But during one of my low points in the early 2000s, I was fresh out of a divorce. I gigged with an old Line 6 Bass Pod (the dark grey kidney bean) into a Peavey CS800 power amp and a carpet covered Carvin 210.
The cab was by far the best sounding part of the chain.
A kid at my church just put two Faital 10s in that old cab and it sounds incredible.

No worries on the photo in this case; it's a look I'm familiar with. By this standard, I believe my entire run of bass playing has been a low point, at least in terms of gear dumpster-divedness! I used a borrowed Line 6 guitar pod (red kidney bean, Marshall Plexi emulation) as a bass preamp for awhile, into a Peavey M-3000 power amp, driving a carpet covered Peavey 1 x 15 PA cab with a Scorpion (the horn was dead and I used the cab's Lo input to bypass it). The Pod actually worked pretty well for me; at low gain settings and with a little compression that plexi emulation could serve a P-bass pretty well for classic rock tones. Where it fell short for me was EQ-ability...it didn't sound bad, but I always felt it would sound better with the ability to trim some lows and low mids, and no combination of knob positions on the Pod could get me quite where I wanted to be. With a HPF, or at least a rack EQ with one stereo side broken and missing some sliders, in the chain I'd have been able to, I'm sure. On the plus side, I liked the Pod's compression and it had enough output to launch my power amp into low earth orbit.
But I've upgraded since then. Now I have my very own Zoom B-2 preamp to drive the M-3000 with, another small red weird-shaped box doing a digital emulation of an early Marshall. Same power amp, though. 210 fan-cooled watts, mono, in three rack spaces is a comfortable configuration. Striving for more than 100 watts per rack space is courting disaster, like exceeding 55 mph on the interstate in a car that gets more than 14 mpg.

The rehearsal studio where my band practice was cleaning out their storage room. I was lucky enough to walk past when they were loading a lot of old stuff into the garbage truck. A short discussion later I was the lucky owner of this old Peavey PA head and Marshall cab. Works just fine and sounds really good to my ears.
Being in a studio all her life, I'll bet that old EQ only has about 500 miles on it too. Nice save, bro.!
That Marshall cab makes my naughty bits all engorged and tingly.
