Yes, definitely a different mindset from the get-go. The Choad Hammer post in that other thread...OF COURSE YOU LIKE IT, because it is a kicker of asses! No need to qualify that! It conveys equal measures of humor, confidence and ability to laugh at oneself.
It is the opposite of "Recommend me a high-end five-string fretless worthy of my artistry and station in life" threads.
Which are just as deserving of a place on TB, and which deserve the privilege of me staying out of those discussions for lack of wisdom to contribute.
I don't think any fur flew anywhere in the whole Janky-A thread. That's kind of amazing. Surely some people would be put off but I don't think one person anywhere offered up a single disapproving word.
No fur flew on the other thread either but it got the banhammer for prima facie breaking the no bass guitar prettiness commentary rule. What's so hard to understand about
while there isn't a "no ugly amps comments thread" rule; there is a "no ugly basses comment/thread" rule.
I dunno...surely there are owners—somewhere—of janky-A basses that enjoy them for what they are and could have fun on a janky basses thread, it apparently the fur has flown enough at some point for there to be a rule about it. Everyone who's posted in this years-long thread has seemed to "get" the appeal of jank in amps, and that is cool. That's all I'm saying.
You know what? Since building the janky rack case a month or two back, I have not played a single amplified bass note. Current conditions have halted band activity and the need for a bass amp. I need to fire that thing up!

Fire it up! Do like I do-- turn on YouTube on your TV and play along with your band list songs. I do that every day. It keeps my love and connection for playing alive. Even if it is virtual, your playing is live and good for your spirit. Play on! Janky lives!
Fear the water/coffee mixture !
Warwick Sweet 15.2 and Dynacord Bass-King T (tube power) + Ashdown 15" cab , powered by "Sweetie" , Fender Player P-Bass which cost more than double the rest of the rig combined. Great for the psych/stoner/post-something we do, looks and tones alike.
Less than 100€ for each piece of the rig, coffee around 0.40€ and water around 0.50€

I have been doing a bunch of DIY jank builds during house arrest. Found a bunch of potentially usable stuff I had no idea was even there, sure beats ordering out.
What's the most ignominious end to your old jank? I got a Peavey Databass (sans speaker) on its side serving as a TV stand now. The SWR 15s will always be the best kitty scratch posts ever invented.

I don't know if I apply here. The one amp I'm using while in musical isolation is my Peavey Special 150 guitar amp. I make George Lynch noises through it with guitar, or clean reverby lap steel noises sometimes. The exterior hardware and speaker grille are in a pile on a work table and have been for a long time. So it looks pretty rough...but it's still in use.
You know, I never really thought about it, but LCD screens have opened up a whole new world of janky TV stands.
You couldn't do that with CRTs, as the loudspeaker magnet would redirect the beam from the colour gun, and gauss the screen.
What times we live in.
I have some speakers, and a couple of CRTs in the basement. I have never tried that. Hmmmmmm.

Not being wise in the ways of TV and bass speakers I found out the hard way. It was looking like the set was toast but it came right after a day or two.
Man, I wish I could find a pic of my first rig that I built in high school and used in college until I got my Ampeg.
Yamaha B100-II head I bought from Daddy's Junky Music. Tolex and cloth were a bit worn, but sounded tight.
The cabs...oh the cabs. A pair of cheap 3-way speaker boxes donated by my uncle, just particle board and vinyl woodgrain. Proceeded to fry the stock speakers, so I yanked out everything, loaded in Radio Shack 15" drivers, covered the holes for the tweeter and horn with cardboard, sealed with duct tape, and reinforced all the edges with a couple layers of duct tape. I have no idea what the wattage or impedance of those speakers was, but they were cheap.
It looked totally ghetto but sounded ok and was amazingly loud. I remember one project, my buddy had a JCM900 and a 1960A (or similar) cab, and he liked to crank it up. Drummer couldn't hardly hear the guitar, and my volume was at like 6 or 7.
