Jason
exemplifies "Great Customer Service" in my experiences as both a longtime purchaser/price-matcher/haggler of Bass Gear as well as years spent on "the other side" of the Retail Counter. I had wanted to make the jump to Progressive Tension sets but didn't know exactly how to translate the sets I'd been using and the improvement I desired over to PT... so I *called* him, explained that I had read the great things said about him on TalkBass as well as in the most recent "Berklee Today" which mentioned him and BSO, and could I pick his Brain for a few minutes for a conversation to Progressive Tension sets?
He then took about 20 minutes out of his afternoon while I explained the above and what I was looking for in terms of the Progressive Tension gauges I'd need to equal my generally Light sets, my specific needs in terms of a Tapered B-string
(for my Spector Bridges, which can't take the upwards "bend" from the Ball at the back of the bridge to the saddle using fully-wound B-strings) and that I'd need the majority of sets in D'Addario Strings' "Super Long Scale" as all my 5-strings were 35" scale and the standard Long Scale started to taper less than 1/8th inch
before the Nut. :scowl: He informed me that D'Addario had re-worked their Long Scale sets and that they would now fit 35" scales with room to spare and that I wouldn't
a) be as limited with my choices from the Super Long Scale compared to their Long Scale
(as well as saving a few bucks per set by staying in "Long Scale"),
b) that a Progressive Tension set of .040/.055/.075/.100/.135T would be the equivalent of my .040-.100 Light Sets plus a separately purchased .130 B-string, &
c) while giving me a bit more tension and heft on my low-B while still clearing my bridge & saddle issues with the Tapered B-string. And if all of the above wasn't enough, the prices for each set came to cost
less than purchasing my usual Standard Sets that came with the Scale Length and B-String Issues built in!
I purchased 4 & 5-string sets of my "majority used" D'Addario ProSteels as well as 1 of XL Nickels for my Fretless 5-string as "Test Sets", and told Jason if I dug these then I'd be placing bulk orders in the future. I suppose it's about time to string up the *rest* of my Fleet that need new strings with sets from BSO, as I've been absolutely
loving both the feel as well as the tone of the sets than Jason made up for me. And with the Customer Service I received from Jason, I quite frankly have absolutely no reason to go back my former sources for strings.
...and I had my conversation and ordered late in the afternoon, so my order wasn't posted until first thing the next morning...
