Jason Newstead might perform with Metallica!

it'd be very cool and grown-up of James to let Jason be a part of the induction... having said that, I don't think it'd be fair on Robert to have to sit on the sidelines - Jason left Metallica after all...

I'd let Jason (and Dave.. and Ron if he wanted) come up and be there to collect the award but I'd draw the line at playing with them

I agree with a lot of what is being said here, having been a longtime fan and follower of Metallica. I can even appreciate some of there new stuff, although I think St. Anger is a complete throwaway, get-well, rehab record that should've never been produced.

I loved the documentary "Some Kind of Monster," which painfully illustrates all of what we are talking about. Jason was definitely a strong, contributing force, and although Robert Trujillo is a GREAT bass player, Metallica is not the same. Just as they were not the same when Cliff died.

I think Metallica has learned a valuable lesson in human relationships when it comes to the Jason Newsted situation. Jason was done with the controlling antics of James.

It will never be the same, but life goes on. I'm glad to see that at least they are all (hopefully) making amends, feeling good about what they have achieved, and playing together, if at least for a one-time shot.

Jason is one of the people being inducted, so it's cool and appropriate that he'll be attending & performing. According to their website, the R&R Hall of Fame is inducting the following current/former members of Metallica (3 of them being bass players!):

James Hetfield (vocals, guitar; born August 3, 1963),
Kirk Hammett (guitar; born November 18, 1962),
Jason Newsted (bass; born March 4, 1963),
Lars Ulrich (drums; born December 26, 1963),
Cliff Burton (bass; born February 10, 1962, died September 27, 1986),
Robert Trujillo (bass; born October 23, 1964)
