Jay Ganz Straight Ahead Power Amp

Well, somehow, I fried my SAMPA. Totally bummed about that.

Not really sure what happened. I was running my L6 POD Go thru it into a Genzler BA210, I heard a sizzling sound, then my rig went silent.

I'm gonna reach out to Jay this week and see if he can help me out. If I figure out what it is, I'll let everyone know. Wish me luck...

WOW! In a nod to incredible customer service...

I've been crazy busy at work, so I haven't had a chance to reach out to Jay to ask if there was anything he could do. I was going to try again this week, I didn't have to. As I'm getting ready for work this AM, I get a notification that I have a message on FB. I check the message, and it's JAY! He saw my post here on TB, and he reached out to me! He told me to send it to him and he'd fix it!

THAT, my friends, is the kind of customer service we all dream about!

He is currently making one for me right now. Going to power a Schroeder 2x8 4 ohm 500 watt lil' monster! I had Jorg cover it in surf green rhino coat...looks incredible, sounds even better!
Not sure about the pre. Going to use the pre on my Eich head and bypass the power amp section, but looking at other good preamp options..I LOVE the Eich pre. Would love to have that pre in a pedal.

Any good flexible SMALL preamp pedals with a sweepable mid people might recommend??

Soooo many options for preamps. I've run through 4 preamps that have connected to the Straight Ahead and they all worked well. The two Mesa options sent a plentiful amount of gain to it. I had Jay make me a model that has a combo XLR/TS input so I could use essentially anything on the market. Currently on my board is the Nordstrand Starlifter, which has a single sweepable mid. The one caveat is that it uses AC power, but it does help to keep the noise down. If you want to go smaller and equally as reliable you probably should look at the MXR M81 Bass Preamp. They can be had for around $100 and it fits my definition of "small."

Just got word from Jay that my amp has been "repaired" and is on its way back to me! I use the quotation marks, because my amp wasn't so much repaired, as it was basically replaced. The bottom of the voltage supply circuit board was nuked. Could've been an electrical power surge, coulda been gremlins, we really don't know. Anyway, he replaced the that board AND he put in an updated audio board. So, ostensibly, it's a new amp!

I couldn't have asked for a better customer experience. Jay has gone above and beyond for a no-name bass player(yeah, I'm a paying customer, but this is the only publicity he'll get from this). I hope I don't have anymore issues with my SAMPA, but if it does happen, I will gladly just buy a new amp from him.

If you're on the fence about buying one of these, just do it! It's a fantastic little amp, with a ton of power, built buy an awesome human being!

Got my amp back today! Not only does it make sound, which is way more than it was doing a few weeks ago, but the amp itself is now WAY quieter than it was before! Still has some fan noise, but it's nowhere near the level it was previously!

Now, I'm thinking about getting another one, and comparing two SAMPAs to a single Mike Arnopol Soundworks power amp. The MASoundworks amp uses the same 1200w ICEpower module that the Bergantino Forte HP and the EA iAmp Classic use. It's smaller and lighter(obviously, LOL!)than the amps, but it's still massive compared to a SAMPA. I could split the signal from my Helix into two SAMPAs, each driving one cab. Maybe I'll wait until I get my Neural DSP Quad Cortex.

This sounds like a lot of fun...;):D:laugh::roflmao:

My live bass rig ALWAYS has one of Jay’s amps in there..I usually carry 2, but have never needed to deploy the backup.

I’ve used one as a stage monitor amp, mains amp in small venues, bass of course, and as a backup for any six string things that may come along..

incredible amps, super service, and Jay is just a good guy.
