Jay Turser 54 Precision Bass....Pics

Update #2, after changing to the new strings, I found some foam helmet pads in the garage and made a mute for the strings, Man, this bass has such a fat tone with those half-rounds and the mute, I can't get over it. I just ordered a bridge cover off ebay to cover the mute and to add a little "bling" to the sparse look. I'll post some pics once the cover is installed.

Yeah but it just won't be:

haha sorry to be evil!

To be honest i was very tempted of getting one a Turser originally but decided to save up for the real thing, i think these Turser are good for a 'knock around' bass.

It's a Fender right? Did it come with the white p/guard? Anyone know where I can get a different coloured p/guard for my 51 re-issue (Fender)?

Fender uses a black pickguard as OEM for the "butterscotch" finish '51 RI and white as OEM for the sunburst version. I ordered a few white '51 guards from my friendly neighborhood Fender repair guy.

I'm sure other pickguard manufacturers could provide whatever color you want given a pattern.

Hey I want to keep this thread alive! After all the talk around here about the value this thing brings I decided to get one. This one cost me $91.90 plus $40 shipping from ebay. $132!

Flippin' sweet bass. The first thing my wife says is "that one sounds better than your other one" Nice...since I paid $550 for it! Oh well:hmm:

It's not my first color choice but it's growing on me. Maybe a black pickguard and a bridge cover. For now I'm just gonna play the snot out of it.:bassist:

It is the pickguard. The margins are bad and it's shaped differently on the right side of the control plate. Fenders come out much more rounded and closer to the edge of the body in that area.

You're right, but I own one of the Tursers and i've never noticed any visual difference. I don't consider it to be significant at all - I'd never have been able to see it without the pic of a Fender in this thread to compare it to - and it's certainly not enough difference to bother me a bit.

Working on a new honkabilly project, so I snagged one'a tham Turser basses.

Arrived today, so of course the first thing I did to it was shitcan the factory strings and wind up a set of nicely seasoned TI flats.

hmmmm......I think this must might work!

Sweet. Can I ask where you scored yours? I was having trouble finding one. I found a place online as well as an eBay store that seemed to have them, but when I called them to see if they had the color I wanted in stock, they told me they were backordered and not expecting them until late June/early July. And by this I mean, in any color. They were just outta stock on them.

(Yet both places still show them being for sale. )

I even called the company that distributes Turser in the states. They said they were looking at getting more in July, but could make no guarantees. We may have to start a petition if they don't automatically produce more of these. I want one in ever color combo!

Anyways, I did find one guy selling one on eBay, though he had modded it a bit, but it got snatched out from under me.

I ordered one today through eBay that was b stock (tiny finish flaw near neck pocket)--in the natural-- and am really looking forward to getting it.

kid on ebay listed it and it didn't sell, so when he relisted it for $135 shipped I snagged it

It has a couple of minor finish issues which will fade amidst the many finish issues it will have soon when it assumes its rightful role of a stage beater.:D
