Yes. The Sting bass was the bass that made me fall in love with the single pickup design that the Turser is a copy of. The Turser is good for what it is, a cheap imitation, but at the end of the day it is still only a cheap imitation of what I want. This bass is a "proof of concept" for me, now I want the real thing. I want the quality of components and manufacture that Fender Japan offers. I want better quality woods, including an ash body instead of a four piece cheap-wood body with paper thin laminates over the top and back to make it appear nice. I want a pickguard and pickup rout that aren't sloppy cuts. Don't get me wrong, this is a good bass for what it is, but it doesn't hold a candle to the real thing. Which I wouldn't expect at 1/4 the price.

i have the natural finish body, & it's a 3piece body, just like most mia fenders out there. it's NOT a laminated body, ( as ALL the boutique builders do, as i've never seen a single 1piece solid quilted maple body out there,,, just dosen't happen )

what i love about about this bass IS the cheapness of it,,, yep, the bridge IS cheap,, already replaced it with a fender am deluxe string thru bridge i had for a different project bass i had laying around,,, had to order a couple ferrules,,,, & an ashtray cover,,, straploks,,,, done

this is a bad ass bass that i got for 99 bucks on ebay,, I LOVE THAT & I also love the fact that I finally didn't have to pay way overly inflated prices for a single coil p-bass,, but to each his own. :),,, thanks Jay Turser

Look closely your natural Jay Turser has a very thin laminate on the top and back so as to make the three (four in my case) piece body have a nice appearance. You can see the laminate on the edges. It's much like the paper thin quilt laminate on my Brice, but thicker. It's a good job by Turser, they made a very spiffy looking bass this way. I also replaced the tuners (see my previous post), but I don't think I'll replace the ultra-cheap bridge, it appears that it is functional enough. If my old lost mexi Jazz bass bridge ever shows up that will go on there. I just put the bridge cover on and it really looks great on there. The nut is awful, I've already broken it changing strings, but it still holds the strings in place well enough. This is a great bass for what it is, but it is not a great bass. In this case I think you get more than what you pay for, as with a really good SX (and there are plenty of those).

I paid $150 but I went with a local independant dealer, which is something I like to do, and didn't have to pay shipping.

From the various photos on this thread it looks like the Turser model has a more modern neck radius and frets (10 or 12 inch radius and jumbo frets)

The 7.25" radius and vintage slim frets on the ONE piece maple neck of my Fender 51 P reissue are some of the many things I love about that bass. And the killer tone, of course.

does anyone know of a non-ebay web source for these basses? I'd love to get one, but the ebay pickings have been slim lately. It would be nice to order one by color and fretboard material, as I've read that rosewood and maple are both options and the antique white I've never seen on Ebay. Does anyone know of a bass store that sells these that has them available for purchase on their website?

Cool!! I'm going to order one............along with some primer and seafoam green paint from ReRanch :bassist: I think vintage pearloid would also go well with the seafoam green color. I have more fun with cheap basses than expensive ones :cool:

Seafoam? That's gonna look great. You should slap some covers on there, too. You better post some pics when you're done.

I'm probably going to order one here as soon as my Tube Driver sells. Soon as it does, I'm all over the vintage sunburst. I'd like to get a black pickguard, myself. Seafoam green would look pretty sharp, with the maple fretboard.

OK, I finally got time to add the tire weights under and on the bridge cover of my Turser.

Just to re-cap, it has pretty bad neck dive. Rather than change tuners, I decided to add weight on the butt end, since the bass only weighs about 6.5 pounds. I went to my local Goodyear store and they gave me three strips (4 oz each) of the adhesive tire weights used on mag and specialty wheels.

I found that by positioning them carefully, I could add 8.5 ounces of weight under the strings at the front of the bridge. I stuck it on the poly finish immediately above the bridge, and it's JUST covered by the bridge cover when installed:

And here's an inside view of the bridge. I found that the weights JUST BARELY cleared the strings and saddles, so depending on your setup and saddle height, they might or might not fit on yours:

Result: I managed to add 11.5 oz of weight using the tire weights. The weights are esentially invisible, although I can see the tip of one weight sticking past the underside of the cover (will trim that back soon) and I can see light reflecting off the strips under the front of the bridge cover - no problem as far as I'm concerned. MOST IMPORTANT, although there is still a hint of neck dive, the situation seems to be greatly improved and the bass only weighs a bit over 7 pounds. For now, I'm very darn happy! :bassist::D
