Hey Jake, welcome to Talkbass! I think I saw a picture of you and your brother on John's website, your bass was either on the table or worn not exactly a la Mark King :)

Re the color I'm partial to the cherry red, it's the only bass I would buy in red, just like a Ferrari (although not cherry).

Anyway, what ever you choose will be a great bass!

I was holding it I believe :) It's a 2005 shot, I'm the bassist and my brothers the guitarist. I do love the look of the Cherry Red, but it's one of those I can have any colour so I want something really cool. My white Thunderbird should hopefully be getting sprayed soon, it's all shaped and what not. It just goes to show that it's not all Mark Kings! Though I am glad that the mistake was made allowing me to have one (in around 16 months no doubt)!

Yeah it's the one he's most famous for and it is great. I think people sometimes forget that custom means custom and anything you want can be made. I don't play fretless but I'm eager to get one of the 'Jaco' models at some point, even if it means having a fretted one. I also feel like I need to learn the skills myself but my dad is worried I'm going to cut my hands off lol.

I can't play fretless as of yet. I'm sure the adjustment to it may take a while but could be worth it if I could play both. Needless to say everything I have atm and the ones being made are fretted.
Frets are the reason I'm getting a MKIII, comunication breakdown meant the pickup placements were for a fretless but a fretted one was needed. Mine will be fretted but it'll have fretless position pickups so it'll be an interesting sound, may help more with slap as it's closer to the neck. Now I just need to learn slap!

Yeah I saw the YouTube vid :) It sounds great. I just can't wait for my Thunderbird to be ready, I saw the body the other week, all routed and shaped ready to be sanded down for spraying.

I had difficulty deciding my colour for the Series III, they said go with deep cherry red and showed me one there. I said yeah go for it cause it looked fantastic. Then they said if you wanted one in pearl blue we could always make you a Jazz at some point so I said yeah again! More basses for me!

Spent a lot of the day there and the quality control was ridiculous, the tiniest dent was made where the laquer set in the grain so it's off to be buffed.

Yeah that's why I'm having it. The pickup placement there is how they would be for the fretless models, however mine will be fretted. On a regular S3 it would be placed closer to the middle range, I could not convince them to put a third pickup in xD

Thats a shame they wont go for the extra P/U, imagine a three P/U S3, now that I would really GAS for.BTW I have an 84 cherry/ brass Hware, the only time I have wanted another colour was when I saw a pearl white with nickle, in a birmingham shop around 86-87. But now I am glad I have the cherry, as the wood in the lamiantes ages it suits the cherry more and more. I nearly chose a black one, close call.

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] Well there's a 3 pickup series 1. The Series 3 isn't being done for a while (Thunderbird is first along with brothers SG guitar) so I should be able to convince them. I like the 'mini' SN2000, it would sit in there easier.
