I was going to switch the preamp in mine because it was faltering as well, but then I realized I didn't like the neck or anything else about the bass, so I just sold it.

Jazz 24 not working. HELP !!!!

If you're handy with a soldering iron it should be easy. Check out some wiring diagrams and stickies. You'll only have 3 functional knobs so you'll want to leave a "dummy" knob so there's not an open hole.
yes, those preamps die all the time, i've replaced many of them. what happens is someone puts the battery in backwards and bzzzt! dead.
if you want to do it right, get a better preamp like the EMG BTS control and wire it in with a bypass switch. it'll work just fine with the stock QP pickups.
if you need to go cheap, this bass sounds good in passive, so go for it!
take off the wire from the center lug of the volume pot (which is now going to that preamp) and run a new one from there straight to the hot lug of the output jack (after taking off the wire that was going there from the preamp).
you've now bypassed all the active circuitry. if you wanted to get fancy, you could now wire in a passive tone pot in place of one of the now useless EQ knobs.

Dang it Walter......where were you 3 years ago?? This sounds like a great idea even if only temporary.
i say either try to buy an old stock one or just wire it passive,thats gonna be the cheapest way out of this ****.

Didn't the Jazz 24 come with a Duncan preamp? or was it a Korean copy of a Duncan Preamp, like what is in the Squier Deluxe Active?
