Well once you get it all planed down then the top and bottom are parallel. So you can start drilling/routing/cutting and assuming all your drill press/bandsaw/router tables are level then it will leave you with perpendicular surfaces to the planed parallel ones. Hope that makes sense.

I cut out the body shape before doing anything else, it gives me something to work with to line up where everything else will be going.

Tomorrow I should be making the neck pocket and gluing some veneers and such to the neck. I will try to take some pictures for you.

Yeah, I find it makes it easier to line everything up. If you do all the cavities on the body blank and then have a mishap where a chip comes out or something and you have to change the design, you are out of luck. This way you can account for that later.

It was a short day in the shop. There just wasn't much I could do while parts were gluing/drying. I was able to make the neck pocket and glue on the padauk tranny block on the neck. Here is how I make my neck pocket for those of you who were wondering.

I start by taking the bulk of the wood away with the drill press so it doesn't kill my router bits.

Then I clamp on a guide for one of the sides of the neck pocket.

Then while keeping the first guide in, I put the neck in place and pinch it with the other sides guide to get a tight fit.

Lastly, I do the back to make it straight.

Then you are left with this:

With it all put together:

You obviously can't tell, but here is the neck being glued up with the ebony/padauk/ebony tranny block.

I do it entirely with 2 different rasps. They take off a ton of wood very quickly. Then I just sand it smooth. I think this is number 12 that I have built so far.

They do have the same thickness for the entire neck. It is just a personal preference.

Although it looks like not a lot happened since last time, it did. Just not major things. The bridge, pickup and neck pockets have all been made to the right sizes and fit them perfectly.

The back of the neck is pretty much done and so are the side dot markers.

I also made the truss rod cover with my logo "J" of padauk on it.

I'll probably just put it up on eBay or maybe on here first. I am shooting for slightly under $2000, but we'll see.

Thanks. I almost never play fretless, so I am not sure how great it will sound, but I will make a video for you. :)
