PHENOMENAL!!! They played mostly older stuff and had the place on its fee all night. I continue to be amazed by this band. I'd go to another concert of theirs in a heartbeat.

I was lucky enough to go to Winter NAMM this year and met Dan and Jerzy. Very cool show if you get the chance to go. I highly recommend it!

While I was there, Dan was good enough to tease me with some new JD's that he picked up. I'd like to add to my collection, so if you'd like to buy me an early Christmas gift. . . . any one of these would due just fine! :)

Thanks! And I'd be lying if I said we haven't discussed it. :)

Just weighed it to get the official word... so far, my lightest bass for sure. 7.3 pounds. Holy crap!

Actually, it's Macassar ebony instead of his usual gaboon. The neck is actually a combination of ash and maple... ash/maple/ash. And yeah, the gold anodized cavity cover is also different. Also different on this one is it's got a really shallow neck profile... pretty thin from front to back. That combined with the feather weight on this bad boy and it's a ridiculously easy play. The B string is also typical Jerzy... to die for. Talk about focus and punch. It's all there.

Still working my way through comparing it to my Basic, but so far it has more clarity through the mids, and a bit more going on in the lows and low mids. It's got a set of Pro Steels on it right now tho, not the usual tapered SIT Jerzy set. It sounds great the way it is right now, but I have a feeling it'll sound even better with the native strings on it. At least the Basic seems to.

So far so good, and thanks!... :)

Looks great! The ash neck and body seem like a new direction for Jerzy. I like the look of your five piece quarter sawn neck much better than the flat sawn one piece ash jobs that Mike Tobias is turning out.

No truss rod cover? And, yeah; a metallic control cavity cover plate? Never seen that before from Jerzy. The glued(?) nut is different too. They're usually bolted down.

I'll bet it sounds absolutely amazing with all that lightweight ash. Congrats! :cool:

Yeah, forgot to mention the truss rod cover. Jerzy told me that's optional now. I guess enough players had mentioned the fact that, while it looks kinda' nice, it does make neck adjustment a lot more of a pain. I have the same (minor) "complaint" on my Basic.

That said, with as thin as this neck is, I was a bit concerned about stability, but no worries. It came to me from Atlanta, I dug it out of the case "cold" and it was still in tune! I let it warm up, and the truss rod needs nothing. I was pretty sure I'd be turning it at least a little bit going from a warmer more humid climate to a much drier colder climate. Nope.

Did a little more messin' around with the bypass, passive tone, and mid switch. I'm not sure I'll use the bypass much, but just as with other basses I own, the passive tone control is really nice, and I do like the mid switch. Significant extras over my Basic, which has neither.

Wow, that's gorgious!
Probably the most "classical" looking bass he had at the show (for a drozd at least), but it probably would have been my choice too... :-) It's an absolute beauty, and with interesting new details indeed!

Black hardware would have been the only change to make it perfect for my personal taste, but I have to admit the gold hardware is nicely supported by the cavity cover, and even by the neck bolt retainers (or what are they called?). Talk about attention to detail...

I'm interested in more ideas on the tonal diffences with your basic, as the body and neck woods are signifficantly different. So far they seem not too different, maybe because both instruments are of such quality level that they allow you to sound like you?

Man, I wish more folks would be able to get these in the USA. It's just that the initial price, import/export, and exchange rates, kinda' make it REALLY hard.

This is one of the reasons I think Jerzy always likes to try hard to make sure USA dealers take all the NAMM basses at the end of the show. I think some cost can be absorbed there and ease the pain enough for at least a few more of these to get played.

First gig tonight!

Nice Vic. Reminds me quite a bit of the one I had. Beautiful top and beautiful board.

Your neck shot really shows the highly unusual neck profile of these basses... that full C type profile, but with the 'bottom of the C' completely flattened... almost like running a carpenter's plane along the bottom of the back of the neck. Kind of shocking the first time you play one, but I ended up digging that profile... very meaty and a bit chunky, but that flattening makes it easy to play. Very flat (I think over 20") neck radius.... very different feeling instrument.

That's one of the nicer one's I've seen. I kind of wish he would develop his own preamp, but the OB-3 sounds pretty nice in these.
