dang! now *that* is a bass. havent yet met an instrument that totally humbled me, but i am thinking this one could be it....

Just bought this one from Dan at Luthiers Access Group. WOW! I forgot how great the JD's sound. Flipped my beautiful MTD 535 and some for this one. No hesitation.
That's funny!

I also flipped one of my MTDs for the Basic V I got from Dan (fantastic to deal with, BTW!!!).

I honestly can't remember if I told this story here, but...

I never really played a JD before... just a little bit here and there in the past, but really kinda' off my radar.

I went to a guitar show last year in Indy with the guitar player in the blues band, expecting to not see much in the area of basses... just going for kicks... but then I saw this table in the back with all these premium basses on it. I said "I'll be over there... just let me know when you're done." :)

Turns out it was Dan's table. He had what is now my JD as well as the white Mastery 5 he still has on his site. I'm not into painted necks or white basses, but the Basic V was sitting there, and oddly enough, a rare 34" scale model. I could not believe my ears. I left with it, and we negotiated a deal for one of my MTD 535's to complete the process (which he's also since flipped). That said, my other MTDs are currently in no danger. :)

Not really much to look at compared to most of his stuff, but a truly amazing bass... plays itself, and so big, full, and focused on the low end. If they weren't so insanely expensive right now, I'd probably start a custom build with some fancy wood with Jerzy for next year, but really... I'm not "missing" anything on mine either, so not much of a priority right now. :)

Anyway, pics from his site, I haven't done my carpet shots on this one yet...

We didn't get too many shots at the JD booth this past NAMM, but here's what we did get. Of course we had to get at least one of Yves. :)

Many thanks for the photographs!
The Luthier's Access Group website had some nice previews, but it is always good to see basses being played.

It is also good to see that Jerzy still experiments with the visuals of his Obsession series. Very nice designs!

The brown truck will be bringing a NAMM piece my way tomorrow.

More later. :-)

OK, quit playing around! :D Which one???

Dan at LAG is who I got my Basic V from, but I got this one through Atlanta Bass Gallery (Jim and Darren). Great folks over there!!

Sorry, but not until I have decent pictures to share. I'm going to a concert tomorrow night, so look for my pictures hopefully Thursday night. :)
