I had an interesting experience over 40 years ago…the Stranglers were playing a theater in a college town 30 miles away from where I lived. I gave a ride to a female acquaintance(we were quite, uh, casual). Great show, then she slipped off…no biggie, I knew her M.O. Like I said, casual. She ended up being Burnel’s guest for the evening, but I went to the afterparty, and spent a considerable amount of time chatting with Dave. He was great, very personable, and his demise was especially sad for me. As much as I admired JJ, Greenfield was that band’s secret sauce.

That is quite the story...Wow.
It was upsetting that he passed ....I felt it too...I can "sing" all his lines by heart ...so unique and musical

I am so happy I saw Hugh solo a few times....he is so much the sound of the Stranglers too...and he performs all the Stranglers classics

I saw Hugh on a co-tour with Glen Matlock(who was playing guitar); they shared a rhythm section of Clem Burke(Blondie)and a bass player named Paul Fish. Cornwell was great, but something was definitely missing. Glen was too, but he kind of overreached tackling a Scott Walker tune.
