John Entwistle!

I watched a thing on Mr. Entwistle on MTV (:eek:) the other day, and at the end of it, it went someting like this (note, these arent actual quotes, but very close):

Reporter: ...John was never one to move much around on stage....
Interviewer: Why didn't you move around much?
John: If I did move I wouoldn't have been able to play it...

I think that just shows how much concentration he put into his playing. Maybe I should try this??

Good(if somewhat unplesant) job Steve.

For newspaper-coverage, I think John was not forgotten. The local paper, 'Kaleva', which is third largest newspaper in Finland, had an article in their rarely seen "Deceased" section (not the obituaries), mainly about Johns career. (On a side note, it seems they have some bassist working there as I saw their Roskilde-report which was only a small article but still bass heavy.)

Hehe... I knew about these shows guys. All I meant was that the 9/11 Tribute Show from MSG was the last performance ON RECORD (this means recorded and sold to the public) of the last 3 members of the Who.

For now...Pete's pretty much made a habit of selling every show he could. I've got 3 different versions of their 1999-2000 tour, 2 of which I had to pay for, the third of which I had to piece together from Townshend "gifts" over his website. Then, there's one on DVD.

My guess is that we'll see something from one of these last shows. Perhaps even something from their rehearsals. They supposedly rehearsed 2 new songs that have been written in anticipation of the CD they were going to record this coming fall.

Now, all we can do is hope.

I hope so... They haven't released any new performance (90s, 00s) on CD. So, it'll be great if Townshend comes up with one.


I have to admit I really had my hopes up about the Who's activities this summer and fall (the tour, and possible new album). Here in Montreal, the local station CHOM gave away a trip to NYC to see them and I was devastated when I didn't win. I dare anyone in this city to "out-who-me". I'm confident I'm the biggest fan in Montreal. I thought destiny would prevail and I'll win those tickets. I had lost hope in the future. After Entwistle's untimely death, now I see why I didn't win. I just can't see and enjoy the Who without him. Now, I'm kinda happy that I didn't win. Of course, it'll be great to see them live for the first time. But, in the end, it's funny how things turned out. The main reason why I wanted to win was because I wanted to see my hero. He is not on this world anymore. Therefore, my desire has also died. Really amazing how things work out...

Hmmm....interesting! Good to know!

I've managed to talk the wife into taking a quick jaunt up to Toronto to see them on Sept. 28. I hope it materializes. Something tells me this may be the last time that Roger and Pete perform as "The Who".

But, then again...

I got a big smile when I opened up the TB home page and saw Yawnsie's tribute to John.

Thank You.

Although many hardcore WHO/Entwistle fans most likely already knew most all of the WHO history outlined, it needed to be said and put up front on the TB homepage.

I still find it hard to believe...John is gone.

I always thought John would be around until he was in his 70's. I guess I had convinced myself of this along time ago and just thought he would be.

If you haven't done so already you can send your condolences to his family at his website.

I think....

that it is unfortunate and a shame that not one person has mentioned that the fact that jazz Bassist Ray Brown recently passed away also. It just goes to show you that as an art form, jazz is truly dead.

And you expect to see posts about Ray Brown on a John Entwistle thread because.... :confused:

Actually there are two threads about Ray Brown, one here and one on the more appropriate Double Bass board (where I posted). The one here may have been closed down. There is this great thing called "search"... ;):)

It's pointless to compare musicians of different genres. Brown and Entwistle were both great innovators within their genres, and both deserve respect. Entwistle gets more props simply because rock is more popular than jazz right now. There is no injustice in that. I hope you aren't implying that one genre is "better" than another... that's also pointless, as musical preference is a big YMMV.

Thanks man, I'm glad you liked it.

I went on his site today as well... one of the most piognant things I've seen was the way that the little blurb underneath his picture a little way down the page has been changed to the past tense. :(

If you are one of the lucky few who own a real Buzzard, cherish it. I know John did his.

My wife told me she believe's his Buzzard's were his best friends.

In a strange kind of way, I think she might be right.


John, We'll alway have all your music, you have left that for us all to enjoy, celebrate, and to continue to get both inspired and excited about.

But we miss you man.......:(

I'm sure you can still get 'em. I doubt Rob Green will stop production of the Status version until he's sleepin' with Entwistle.:eek:
