i dont know. it had a 'real' Buzzard headstock, meaning the original style. the tone was my favorite part, actually. the part i didnt dig was the thick neck and the fact that i would almost be forced to play standing up with that bass. the 'Gun Grip' bottom horn hurts. the bass looked just like yours, actually. all except for the one i played had gold knobs.

The funny thing about the neck on that bass is that it feels more like my precision bass to me than any of the other basses I have.

The buzzard does have a thick neck and to play it sitting down you need to support it on your right leg near the heel of the body (the lower wing). If you don't like the neck on the Buzzard, you definitely won't like the classic P bass neck like the one on my 1976, the feel is pretty darn similar.

it had a 2 band EQ. it as well had a 'scoop' is the only way i can describe it at the neck, almost like the whole thing was one piece of wood. but, the thick neck was not the worst neck i have ever played, meaning i actually could play the bass, just it had a thick neck.

It might take some getting used to, but I'd almost guarantee you'd get to love it eventually. What I don't understand is why at a price point of nearly $5K for the neck through buzzard it doesn't rate a 3 band EQ. For that matter at a price point of about $3K for my bolt on why it has a 2 band...

it was on consignment and i was very impressed with the bass. i want it more and more every time i think about the cool factor of owning it. that EQ was quite powerful i might add. i was just checking out this tiny bass only shop and i am still torn between the Buzzard and an 8-String bass that they had.

If it had the buzzard beak, its a JE sig. those have very thick necks, i think they are like 44 mm wide? about the same as the buzzard bolt on 5.

John liked his necks big, thats how the "Fenderbird" came along, the Thunderbird had a to thin neck for Johns liking. they can be custom ordered to have the 38.5 mm bolt on neck width though. the girth of Warwicks is simply wonderful, 21 mm at nut .

How much did they want for it?

There's no doubt it is powerful, I just wish it had a mid range control... but the Eq on mine is usually cut on the bass and just slightly above center detent on treble. I guess I'm just used to a 3 band...

By the way... how many millions of $$$$$$$ did they want for this bass? What part of the country are you in? Just curious, there aren't all that many bass specialty shops around.

No that's exactly right. It is a master volume, pickup pan and stacked bass/treble pots.

i want it really bad now. i know that the signature was not written out by hand, or if it was, the guy was crazy. i wouldnt let someone touch my instrument if it was signed by someone.

i agree that the EQ is very good. i was able to go from shaking the store to just vibrating a little bit just by turning the bass knob. all in all, i was quite impressed.

If you can figure out a way to finance it... (and you want it) get it! In some ways I wish I'd have gotten that bass instead... but in on the other side I really feel the need for a 5 string... did you say what color it was?
