Both versions? There were lots of different flavors in the early years before they hit the megastar lineup. The Peter Green years were my personal favorite ("Oh Well"). McVie's always been solid, rarely flashy, always tasteful.

Perfect player for Fleetwood Mac, his lines were busy enough to be interesting but not so busy that they were distracting.

Rumors is one of my favorite LP's. Great stuff. Always had a thing for Stevie too!

Like a lot of big-time English bassists, JMcV went through his Alembic phase back in the day. He had a custom fretless with an aluminum plate (!) formed as the fretless fingerboard, and I always have a laugh when Susan Wickersham would correct someone that it 'was not fretless, but continuously fretted.'

A solid pocket player, no doubt aided by playing with MF all these years, they're welded at the hip.

True dat. MF is one of the best rock drummers out there. They are a perfect couple.

Been a John McVie disciple for years... not just the notes either, but the whole philosophy of choosing them by what the song called for, while at the same time keeping that almost indescribable melodic influence over the end product. So many Fleetwood Mac songs simply would not be what they are without that bass part underneath them.

I look at it as blues band gone pop
