I'll take the opportunity that Glen bumped this thread to post some info I forwarded to Jean after he asked...

If I remeber weel, some of you had interest in the weight of the bass.

Bass as it is now 3800grams
still need to remove wod from the neck of course but it should be compensated by frets and strings
truss rods 100grams
bridge 280grams
Pickups 530grams
tuners 35grams x 12 = 420grams
knobs 35grams
neutrik jack 26grams
preamp and pots 65grams
batteries 50x2=100grams

total weight around: 5400 grams

These things are cool looking and I give kudos to those that can play them. The question I have is, are they really "basses"? I mean what is the defining charateristics of a bass?

I know there are the narrow interpretations "4 string" fender, but really... when does it get so different that is ceases to be an electric bass guitar and starts to be somthing else?

I'll attempt to answer your question without opening a can of worms. But to me, a bass (electric bass) is pretty much any stringed, electric instrument that contains the register of the standard 4-string bass. These basses are what are known as ERB's, or extended range basses. That is to say, they contain the same 4 strings that most standard tuned basses possess, plus more. Some people define ERB as anything over 5-strings, and in this range of sound (frequency), some define it as anything with more notes than the standard, 22-fret 4-string contains. So an ERB may also be a bass with more frets than 22, or more strings than 4, but still able to cover the standard range.

It just isnt fair, I need to win the lottery or something. I've got incredible amounts of GAS from just seeing JT's basses. Jeans is like the whipped cream and cherries, just bloody sexy.
