Jule Amps Monique Part 2.

Had a session in a 300 year old barn. Very high, 15 to 20 ft. ceilings wood floor with some thin oriental carpets about. Very loud players.

I have played there before but was now placed in a different part of the room. Band set up was across the width of the room instead of playing down the long dimension.

Add new strings and my usual settings weren't working. Too much grind. The room eats up some valuable mids. So this time, Sensitivity all the way down and pushed in. Line level liberally cranked.

This gave me punch and pure smooth tone across all frequencies. Monique!! Jule!!

Chadds,

Some may laugh, but I swear by the GRAMMA pads from Auralex. They really take the room (floor mainly) dynamics out of the equation. Monique is easy to adjust to various rooms, but the GRAMMA allows me to barely tweak.

It is possibly true that 2 2x4's and some foam would do the same thing for less $$$, but for $50 I get consistent sound room to room.

Might be snake oil, but I have done dozens of gigs with these pads and Monique always sounds great with my Berg cabs.

I use a Gramma too. Love it. It works.

Good point. Did I mention I am lazy though?

When I rarely gig my Sadowsky SA410 (made by Bergantino), I leave the Gramma at home as I am too lazy to remove the wheels. The Sadowsky seems to sound great anywhere though.... But likely a bit better on the Gramma.

I almost always gig 1 or 2 Berg AE210s though (no wheels) and always bring the Gramma.

For $50, they look pretty cool.... And they protect the new carpet in my studio!:bassist:

You are very likely right but I bring the Gramma to all gigs as some of the bars have hollow wood stages, concrete, tile, hardwood, carpet, etc.

I just know that my cab will be decoupled from any floor with the Gramma... I bring it to all gigs just so my sound is consistent. Funny enough... I am always the guy at the bar having a drink as the guitards play with their amp EQ/levels.:bassist:

I think in this case it's more about mids being sucked up and the volume and the room dimensions. Remember I/We (Monique) solved the problem.:)

Monique killing it again live. Did a trio hit tonight in a typical tough room. This time I was stuffed back in an alcove. Had the Baer cab sitting on the cart, Monique into the power section of the Puma. Perfect tone, volume, and support. Two tracks, first one MGS (dual coils), second the YYD on the bridge pup.

Where do you guys buy the Gramma pad? I have never used one, but would like to try one under my Bag End stack.

With a taller stack like you have you may be better off with the Great Gramma pad?I just have the regular one and on some stages and depending on how high your stack it the regular one can possibly be a tad unstable but only slightly just because the base is two strips of heavy foam.I feel the Great Gramma has a bigger footprint and should be more stable but it could be a disadvantage on a tight stage?

For quite some time now I've been using the Gramma pad between my cab and amp. This will keep things from vibrating which can cause some loosening in the amp. For you users of Monique this could be a good thing.

I guess this could be a good idea instead of sorbothane balls which are expensive ans a PITA to cut and mount on a board.

I personally use laptop support/cooling balls (Radio Shack). 2 of them split into 4 1/2s which I have used to support my D180 and SVT-CL.... $10 total ($4.99 each) and they work great!
