Jule Amps Monique Part 2.

I have completely neglected my amazing 1973 Jazz (exactly like a Geddy Lee) and my 1974 Precision (best 70's P I have ever played) for the last 6+ months as My current gigs have required (or sounded better with...) active 5ers.

I pulled out the '73 Jazz at rehearsal this weekend with Monique... And after 1 song.... Back to my active 5ers.

Surprisingly, for me... Monique sounds great with passive 4 string basses, but better with active 5ers. Clear articulation from open B to upper register on the G string is why IMO. Once you figure out how to tame a hot active bass into Monique, all is good.

what's funny is I actually put off trying my Fodera through the Monique after some bad results using it through my '64 Ampeg SB-12 fliptop. I just assumed Monique would sound better with my vintage Fenders or Fender-ish basses. To my surprise, the Fodera through the Monique turned out to be such a great combo it's made me completely rethink my sound to the point of ending endorsements....:eek:

it just gives the modern sound that tube warmth that we're all looking for and constantly talking about in all different terminology. I can safely say (if/when I receive my Demeter Minnie) that my tone search as far as amplification is pretty much over. I'm not sure how much better it can get from here!

I am wanting to get a De-Monique and need cab suggestions. Some that I am considering:
Aguilar DB112 x 2
Aguilar SL112 x 2
Berg HD112 x 2
Baer ML112 x 2
Any feedback on these cabs with or without the Monique would be helpful.

I have experience with the DB112 and now have 2 Baer ML112's. Both great cabs, but different. Both very mid forward cabs, the DB being "dirtier" if I can use that term? The ML112's are just stellar as far as clarity, volume, and really being receptive to whatever eq settings you give them. I know it's not a Monique by any means but I've been using a GB Streamliner 900 with them and they match up well with that warm creamy tube sound. I've also used them with an Aggie TH500, GB Shuttle Max 9.2, LittleMark II and they sounded stellar with all of them. But listen, I am no expert by any means, I just go by what I hear. I COULD NOT imagine Monique or DeMonique not sounding incredible with the Baer cabs. I think it would be close to impossible. I'm about to purchase one myself, just trying to decide if I want to run Monique through a current amp I have or splurge for the DeMonique.

Speaking of which, does anyone know what the turn around time is? Are the units built to order or can I order Tuesday and have it Friday?

I've owned/gigged 3 out of 4 of those, but not at the same time as the Monique. Currently I run the Baers with Monique and love it. I think the HD112 would be quite good as well. Kinda depends on whether or not you want/need the extended highs of a tweeter. I'm lukewarm on the SL112 - runs out of gas when pushed IME. I never ran the DB112 as they are too heavy/bulky for my tastes.

Turn around time for any configuration of Monique herself is within two weeks. Recently we got one to a good NY customer (for a gig) within four days of his order, but that was a bit too much fun. :)

As to the Demeter side of things, orders now are being filled the middle of next month. I'm sorry it is taking that long. Demeter Amps is a great company, James is a friend, but I'm learning that they are a whole lot larger than Jule Amps.

Size does matter. ;)

Hey guys....question....I don't know what everyone is running their Monique through as far as power amp, but I'm curious. What are your thoughts regarding running her through a pure power amp as opposed to a head like a Tone Hammer 500, which is what I'm gonna do. Advantages? Disadvantages? I'm very curious because I just ordered my Monique and I've been going back and forth in my head whether I should just go ahead and get a pure power amp or just stick with what I have, which is the TH500 and also a LMII.

I am using a Crest ProLite 2.0 poweramp with Monique and it sounds amazing. Also, the Crest and many other hiwattage power amps are cheap... $359 for the 2000w ProLite as an example.

Downside of a poweramp? If Monique dies, you might be in trouble. Whereas if you have a head, you can revert to using the preamp in the head.

I wouldn't buy a poweramp if I was you unless you were worried about the TH500 dying and not having a backup.

I take this to mean that the production timeline of a larger company moves a little slower and not that there is any problem with the De-Monique form factor (e.g. fitting everything into a Tardis)?

Oh dear me!

I have decided to SELL my brand new Monique (rackmount version). It's in the classifieds.

No reflection on the product. It's the best bass preamp I have ever heard (I like it even better than the Kern IP-777 I used to have).

My wife says I just like to buy new stuff just to have it for a bit, and then I turn around and sell it. Okay, she's right. There are worse habits to have. Right??? RIGHT??? (Bueller?.......Bueller?)
