Jule Amps Monique part 4

I'm super stoked to be the first to test out the very first tube powered Monique hopefully around New Year's time....or whenever Jule gets around to it and stops building all these damn Moniques!

I asked Jule to build me an all tube head (using the pre section of Monique of course) with a pair of KT150s as a power section. He said he's going to finish up an all-tube power section with the KT150s and let me try it out!!

I googled KT150 and read this info...

Jule was originally intending on making a 40 watt all tube separate power section to sit under Monique like the Minnie (or another power section) would. I asked Jule to build me a custom build, and make me an all inclusive head which would basically be a Monique with a pair of KT150s and bigger transformers. He said that since he hadn't finished the 40 watt power section, he would make one using a pair of the KT150s, and I will test it out with my Monique. If it's cool, Jule will then make me this custom head and his all tube power section will prob be sold as a separate unit! Maybe my head will become a thing people can buy, too, who knows. I just want to hear Monique with power tubes behind her and Jule gets it! All in good time, my friends....all in good time!

I had also pinged Jule sometime back about the 40W option. I think a pair of EL34s cranked would sound pretty glorious on my jazz gigs - and likely on the funk as well. I think that is still on a back burner somewhere in Santa Cruz.
Have to admit the kt150s may be a better match.

I loved the idea of the 40 watter. I think in the studio or for lower volume gigs you'd really get that B-15 kinda vibe goin on....I just need more volume, and I figured I could get a decent amount of power without all the weight with just a pair of the 150s....
^ My 35kg (77lbs) Fender has 6 x 6L6's and it tested at about 165W.
If Jule can do twice the watts and less than half the weight I'd be extremely happy.

that's my goal! under both 35 lbs. and $2000....we'll see what happens though. I'm hoping having only a pair of power tubes won't require such huge transformers but I've never worked with KT150s before so I have no idea how they work....if it's gonna be too heavy I may bail and just opt for the separate power section to play with at home and keep the Minnie on the road....

More power to you guys. I like my Monique because it sounds like a fully tube powered amplifier without me needing to carry the extra weight of a tube power section and without losing clarity when you turn it up.
Yeah, I don't really see what a tube power section would bring to the party particularly, but I guess if you want to push the power section into overdrive, it would be good for some players for sure. The low end of the Minnie/Monique 'feels' very 'all tube like' to me personally, and I like the idea of a power section staying constant at all volume settings. IMO though... lots of guys like those all tube power sections for sure.

Believe it or not, I can understand why a guy like you would say that
+1 Makes little sense to me, but also understand he would definitely sell some. For me, the primary selling point of the De-Monique (in its various forms) is that, as Burningskies mentioned previously (a couple of pages ago), you get a pretty classic all tube 'just before breakup' tone (kind of B15ish when you run that amp at low volumes) from that amazing pre that you can then drive to stunningly high volumes with absolutely no change in tonality at all (which is what I always hated about my V4B back in the day... it would sound quite different at different volume levels). I also guess I understand why some would like that variability, or in your case, since you play at low volumes, that you wouldn't experience that (to me) strong negative with a relatively low power all tube power section (i.e., if you play at lower volumes with a relatively powerful tube head, they can of course sound as full and open and clean as any solid state power section for sure).
IMO for sure. And, of course, there are plenty who love to drive a tube power section to overdrive. I hate it, but I get it for sure!
