Jule Amps Monique part 5

I was overall very pleased.

I also ran it through my PA via the DI comparing it to my on hand DI's. I used Bose S1 Pros and my tops and Behringer 12" subs. I found it far superior as a DI.

When I compare it to the amps, I can say it was close, but different. The WD800 came the closest, but it took a lot of work to dial it in.

On a side note, I have a 5 string bass that I didn't really understand it's true character until I used the Monique. I always dialed in a tone that was good, but highly sculpted. As a result, I think I am bonding with this bass a little better.

I can't wait to check out the M500... Jule says it should be ready next week!

No. At NAMM, quite a few got to play a prototype. Nobody screamed and ran away. Large Pedal sized Monique-influenced Preamp, EQ, DI. Same DI transformer as Monique. Same EQ design. Different tubes. Tubes (four of them) are small 7 pin 6AK5s and clones. Runs on 9vdc 2000mls at this time, but this early, stuff can change.

Question for you and any others who might like to jump in = Would moving to a 12 volt wall wart (instead of 9 volt 2000mls) be a massively bad thing? There may be a technical advantage not seen earlier in 12 volts versus 9.

Yikes! You have proven I am obsessed with getting Simone out there making music. The 500 watt amp.

Not sure what it will be called in the real world. Maybe just Simone Amp. Dunno. It has been stable and working for quite a while. . . waiting for Simone.

It too was played at the NAMM Show and even through the din, it was appreciated.

This is a 500 watt (4 ohms) power amplifier designed to kick around on the floor. No fan needed. Hypex Amp Module. Different from the M500 Hypex Amp Module. Optimized at 4 ohms (500 watts). Stable at 2 ohms (400 watts). And stable at 8 ohms (250 watts). Extreme fidelity - monitor quality. Relies on what comes before it for a signature sound.

Uses a PowerCon AC input jack. Dual Speakon Combo Jacks (hence the 1/4" cable you see can being used when you don't have your best cables (I am Speakon prejudiced.)

There will be only one footswitch on the finished versions. This is because of responses taken at NAMM. Thanks Ron. As to the final chassis, it and the graphics will be matched with Simone. Final price will be available after the chassis cost is known.

I have a 12v tap on my pedalboard power supply, so 12v isn't the worst problem. If it were a big honkin' brick of a PS, it might be difficult to physically find an outlet for on stage. I usually bring a 6-outlet strip but fill it with 4 of my own and share a couple with guitar.

I’m thinking you probably won’t be able to use a 12v tap on a power disto because of not enough amperage for Simone.

What would be the amperage with the 12volt supply?

Looking at pretty much the same current - about 1500mls. Probably go to 2000mls for the extra longevity.

Correct. The filaments current draw for each tube is 175mls. Times four that's 700 mls. The rest is about probably less than 100mls, but one must build in a good longevity margin.

The one footswitch will be an "amp ready" switch. Kinda standby. Kinda Amp ON. The original two was a bit silly. Number One was amp ready and Number two was mute. Essentially the same functionality.

I'd personally prefer a standalone 12V adapter, since I'd most likely be using the Simone outside a pedalboard as a recording device.

Thank you. I appreciate that. The 9 volts is more about keeping folks in their comfort zone than it is about technical reality. As Bill pointed out, there are few standard 9 volt supplies that will give us 2000ms. However. . .comfort zones are important.
