Jule Amps Monique part 5

Having an interesting time talking about going ampless in that particular thread on TB.
Are bass amps obsolete?
After having dabbled for about a year's time with pedals (all the best Darkglass stuff), and recording with them, I've come to the conclusion that I will never be able to replace an amp and cab with pedals or preamps. I always miss something. However, if there's one piece of gear I could actually see replacing my Sunn 300T when the gig calls for a small setup, it would be the Simone. I can't wait to hear it in action.

Must admit I was rather overwhelmed by the response to Simone (a prototype) at NAMM. We will start shipping as soon as I get a batch of the chassis out of the metal house (and some silkscreening). Unlike the prototype shown at NAMM, the final version will have the tubes behind a grill, protected completely. And yes, the final stages of getting something entirely new into the hands of the people I respect and admire is excruciating.

I’ve been admiring Monique from afar, and following this thread, since 2010. Last week a used Monique became available locally and I finally succumbed to her charms. So far I’ve been playing her through an IP112ER at home. I will try her through an IP310 this weekend. My opinion - Fantastic. At some point I’ll A/B Monique/IP112ER and SA200/HT112ER. I think you’ll all agree that this particular Monique is dressed to kill...

Monique and the Bergantino IP are a perfect match! When Jule heard that was my intended use he called Jim and they conferred to be sure they matched in voltage and input impedance. See? This is why we should support and celebrate our smaller makers.
They play flawlessly. They play as one. All that delicious Monique tone expressed with no limitations. (Hope this doesn’t make used IPs more scarce!)

I knew this was on the way. But didn’t know how pretty she was. As I said in my PM love my Monique and IP112 with an NV115 on the bottom. The game is over, I won. I hope your experience is the same.
They do play well together! I agree, the boutique makers do this because they take pride in getting things right. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to buy their products. The IP series was a great product line, and not discontinued due to superior new products. I suppose after a couple of years in the market sales tapered off and Bergantino shifted to pursue other offerings. They are a great purchase, if you can find one.
This Bamboo Monique, is actually Walnut. It was a one-off custom build, as I understand it.
Peter - your appreciation of Monique & IP112, (and chads and Allen's accolades with their IP cabinets), factored into my decision to purchase Monique. I was confident the end result would be GREAT! (Correction, per @peterpalmieri)

This takes me back when I was first playing electrically and I’d gaze fondly at my amp because it sounded good. I enjoyed the sound and that new 1968 Fender Showman’s appearance. Now the Monique, as if a reward for all those hours and trials and tribulations, great gigs and some not so, smiles back and shows so much beauty. Behind that beauty is the sound so rich and hifi that I have waited all these years for.
I must say gear became utilitarian in those middle years, working or mostly just almost somewhere near ideal.
I saw that video of the Monique and was attracted by its appearance. I mean what could look like that? Could this mean...? I read the description. It was mentioning baxandall and the sound of power tubes. I thought maybe it could get close. Well it is more than close! Oh My!Fortunately hidden in there was not just Ampeg but the tinctures of Hiwatt and vintage Sunn as well.
I’m now gazing fondly at Monique. Show and Go! Reach over slightly turn one of those knobs. More taste more texture.

Well... I guess I am a part of the family now. My Dovecage arrived yesterday. My M500 will be here next week. In the interim, I ran the Jule into the effects return of my 3 of my go-to amps (Warwick LWA-1000, Mesa Subway D800, Mesa Subway WD800) and into a few different cabinets (2 Trickfish 112s, 2 Bergantino HDN 112, Warwick 115).
I was overall very pleased.
I also ran it through my PA via the DI comparing it to my on hand DI's. I used Bose S1 Pros and my tops and Behringer 12" subs. I found it far superior as a DI.
When I compare it to the amps, I can say it was close, but different. The WD800 came the closest, but it took a lot of work to dial it in.
On a side note, I have a 5 string bass that I didn't really understand it's true character until I used the Monique. I always dialed in a tone that was good, but highly sculpted. As a result, I think I am bonding with this bass a little better.
I can't wait to check out the M500... Jule says it should be ready next week!
