Jule Amps Monique part 5

My line level knob doesn`t have a pull switch (just sensitivity does).

I tried my acoustic bass (think upright) with Monique and my Eich T500 (on a Barefaced Big Baby) but I don`t think I got an improvement over the T500 alone. I mean I prefer the sound of the T500 alone but I dig the Monique in headphones. I guess they don`t pair well for acoustic. Is this a case where I would have a big advantage using a power amp instead of the Eich?

Did you try to plug Monique into the "Effects Return" of the Eich to bypass its preamp? This should be the same result as using a power amp.

If that acoustic bass has a piezo pickup the sensitivity knob I believe does change the input impedance as you change settings. And should change the character of the tone.

I also think I remember some of really early units may not have had the push pull on the line level.

I’m sure Jule will chime in with certainties on both of these.

when running to the power amp input are you using the 1/4 line level out? Turn the master all the way up and use line level to control the output volume?

Per @juledude some early Moniques did not have this feature.

I haven't tried Monique with upright. I believe Monique is somewhat compressed, which could modify the note envelop of the upright in way you don't want. IMHO trust our own judgement. Monique is fabulous, but it may not necessarily be you favorite in every setting.

If that Dove Cage has been out there for a while (years) you might have a valve/tube that is not giving us the high end as it should.

Reproducing well, exactly what you and your bass do is the intention. As to voice...we would rather fail on the voice side (not have one).

Thank you for the clip. If the db output levels had been kept the same for all three, it would have been a bit more fun. Still, good to hear. Good clip.

That Monique is about 12 years old. Very cool. It is like meeting a very old friend who is still up there playing. :thumbsup:

Careful with the push/pull Line Level. It adds +10 db immediately. Best to turn Line Level all the way down before pulling the knob out toward you. Yup. It is quite a change.

I have seen others suggest the Monique is sort of dark. IMHO, Monique is probably closer to neutral than dark, but if you are used to a bright amp she can seem a bit dark.

What are your favorite currently available 6SL7GT? I know you previously liked Shuguang 6N9P, but they are pretty rare these days.

My guitarist a huge fan of booteequee tube combos played through my Monique. His eyebrows were up in total satisfaction.

To the above Monique is clear and bright. There are so many possibilities like string choice that make for "color". Some amps are hyped in different ranges as their builtin tone flavor. Monique is smooth across the range. While it has tubes it is so clear. That's it! I'm going to play now!:)

The Tung Sol is OK. It is also expensive.

Favorite is still the Shuguang 6SL7. 6N9P designation is the Russian version of the same tube. The Shuguang 6SL7 is private labeled for a bunch of different companies. So don't let what is stamped on it fool you. You will often see them as, "Winged C" or "Dove something".

You can tell it is the Shuguang by the silver-ish metal base about 3/4" (1.7cm) tall . That metal base is an excellent electronic shield. Ping me and I will tell you where you can get them.

Monique through the QSC K8.2 for acoustic bass gave the best sound but unfortunately when doubling on el-bass I need to go into a bass amp :-(

The clip is not mine. It is just a Monique that sounds like mine. My Monique is indeed about 10 years old as the seller said.

If I were to test changing the tubes in it where would I buy them? Is it something I can do myself or does it require a technician?

Yes I am using the line out into effects return and although I put the master to max on the EICH T500 the volume is non existent in comparison with what I get going into the input.
I appreciate the sensitivity knob for my piezo.

I have not seen a schematic, but my understanding is the Sensitivity control is similar to the Input Level control on the Matchless Thunderchief. If this is accurate, then the input impedance goes up as you turn up the level.

Since piezos need a relatively high input impedance for optimal tone, this could potentially mean it would be better to keep in the Sensitivity switch pushed in, so you can run the control higher and present a higher impedance to the piezo.

Maybe @juledude will clarify.
