Jule Amps Monique part 5

Just wanted to clarify... I have been able to achieve great recorded slap tones with Monique. The problem I have been running into has been playing live. When playing alone my slap tone sounds great through my cabinet. For some reason, on stage playing with the band, I seem to be getting lost in the mix when I slap. This is what I was referring to in my earlier posts. I never seemed to have that problem with my EBS.

I'm using Fodera, Monique, Minnie, Baer ml112 combination. Perfect combination IMO. It absolutely kills and cuts through the mix for lines, but have been having a harder time when I slap.

I added an empress para eq/boost just to kick on when I slap which has helped a bit. I wind up just using it as a boost with a dash of boost in the upper mids to help cut through. The only missing link which I had on the EBS is compression. So now I'm thinking perhaps I should add a compression pedal to kick in just for slap. Perhaps that would help.

Any similar experiences? Suggestions? Thanks.

it isn't my area of expertise, but it sounds like a Diamond BCP1 could do the trick with one stomp. You would get the compression, and be able to adjust the level of the signal, and if the EQ control gets you the extra uppers you are looking for, you might save the tap dance

Thanks for the tip. I actually tried the Diamond a while back but did not dig it. I don't remember why, but it just didn't work for me. Yeah I know, prob the only one here that didn't like it. I also used to use an EBS multi comp back in the day but got rid of it because my tone always seemed a bit over-modulated with that pedal. I guess my bass was too hot for it.

I'm thinking about trying the MXR87 or an Aggie comp.

I used to use a Rane DC24 back in the early 90's. It was wonderful. This layout reminds me of the DC24. Sweet!

I'm seriously considering the Monique. Originally I was thinking of going with the Demeter power amp but now I'm having second thoughts. I play thru a GK MB800 which has enough power for what I'm doing. I'm thinking maybe just use the Monique as a front end to the MB800's power section; out of the Monique into the effects return on the MB800.

As anyone paired the Monique to a GK micro amp? Particularly, the MB800? How did it sound?

We are in a country that can at it's best support differing belief sets.

My experience with Monique:

I've waited so long for this pristine beauty to show up that I'm reluctant to add anything extra.

Every session I learn something new, find some tonal nuance heretofore hidden waiting for me to discover.

Lest anyone says so, these aren't what some say, heard in practice but lost in the mix.

These are new to me pockets of punch and color.

Areas that respond to touch. Hit a note middle of a tune and think, "that needs more X for emphasis or to blend or support the

horns", next note strike Monique is delivering that new aspect.

She is a musical instrument.
