Jule Amps Monique Part III

Speaking of input sensitivity, what is the output voltage on the Monique? Howe well does it work with a power amp of say 1.5v input sensitivity as opposed to an amp that has .75v input sensitivity? Will it give enough headroom for amps that have input voltage requirements?

I believe that the latest revision of Monique has addressed this, and there is a push/pull on the Line Out to give enough voltage for amps with input sensitivities in the range of your amp.

Don't forget that the hiss was also there when you ran the Jag alone, without Monique.

Form the manual:

"As of November 2012, Monique has a built in option to increase the Line Out level from the original maximum output level of 0db (.775 volts) to more than +4db (1.44 volts).

To add the additional 4db to both the Line Output and the Balanced XLR Output, just pull out the Line Out knob. Pushed in, Monique is exactly at the original 0db (.775 volt) levels."

I run two fEARfuls, a rack Monique with a Peavey IPR 3K. The Peavey is a solid performer after 2 years and no problems, and nice at 7lbs (I know weight is an issue for you). The input sensitivity is .775, which works well for the Monique.

Yeah, I currently have a Crown XLS1500 which has an input sensitivity rating at 1.4v, but I would not be opposed to changing that amp to a Crest ProLite or an IPR, however if the Monique will drive the Crown to it's fullest ability there would be no need to change amps, and the amp in this equation is the cheap (inexpensive) part!

The only negatives of the IPR were that I had to 'isolate' the chassis seams a bit since lots of loud bass made it rattle (about half an hour of work), and those damn bright LEDs. I use it either paralleled (one amp for each cab), use both cabs on one side, or bridge for the full POWWAAH.

I don't have a Monique yet but from everything I've read here that shouldn't be a problem. The Line output that Monique puts out is .775 volts and that is what the Puma 900 effects return wants to see (0dbu). So theoretically it should work, and I know there are players here that have been using it that way. In fact, that is what I intend to do when my Monique arrives.

Really? That's pretty funny because they are the ones that taught me! I was there East Coast Artist rep along with my buddy Mark for them at the Boogie showroom in Rockaway Queens. But that was back in '93 and before the M6 and MOSFET power! Perhaps MOSFET power has something to do with it. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

I have the newer one but don't pull out any of the knobs. I find that I run the line out on Monique nearly maxed but I can get plenty loud then dialing up the master on the Puma.

To my knowledge, there isn't a solid state power amp that requires a load to operate safely - but that doesn't mean there isn't one. As for Mesa, I can't specifically say about the M6, but we've run an MPulse 600 without a load for recording many, many times.

Cool. Well those boys at Mesa are Mad scientists so who knows with them. I remember having a conversation with Dan V at Namm and him telling me about how to travel through time by bending space! Then watching them at the factory slugging away with a sledge hammer against amp chassis. The best was watching a dude chuck a roadready rack out the window to see how it would withstand the impact. I guess that is known as the wife kicking you out of your house test!

I heard this from the Mesa Hollywood crew. Perhaps they are so old-school they missed that chapter in amp evolution. Or perhaps, corporate policy is to not say that such operations are "safe" just to avoid any potential issues.
