Jule Amps Monique Part III

Jule, (or anyone else that can answer this question) -

If the line out pot is pulled out for the additional 4db - that affects both the 1/4" line out and the DI (XLR), right? So if you are using it pulled out to match the input sensitivity of the amp, would that not also affect the signal from the DI going to a main board for live applications? That doesn't seem good to me, but I'll take any explanation :)

Also, someone else mentioned a mute switch - any plans for that in the future?

I would think you could just turn the DI knob down to make it work. I tend to run my DI right about noon, so if you did have some discomfort from the extra level, you should be able to turn it down.

I thought about that, or possibly turning the gain on the board channel down so the input didn't saturate and clip at the board. Of course one could always put an inline buffer between the DI out and the board too, however I'm afraid that would affect the tone too much. Or I might just be overthinking this whole thing. :p

Probably. ;)

Yeah - actually, there are 2 things that I would really love to see on the Monique, but these are not even close to deal breakers for me - a mute switch and a dedicated tuner out.

I have my Polytune before the input and just use it as my mute. Compared to the other preamp I have (Kern IP777) or the other amp heads I have or had, it has a stripped down feature set. Which would seem like a sacrifice...but its not really. :ninja:

Monique and the Alien Audio Lunar = very fat and deep
tracks today!

+1.

Even when I had an amp with a tuner out, I never used it. I guess having a tuner in my signal chain and using it also as a mute for years has me stuck in my ways.

The only thing missing in Monique IMO is a mute/standby switch, but that is a very small nice to have IME.

I use pedals so having the Pitchblack at my feet is a plus for muting and tuning. I've had rack tuners in the past but never really used them, some were to hard to see on a dark stage and I don't care to walk to the amp every time. I had a GK that I had to push the mute about four times to get it to mute. It could be offered as an option I guess.

Oh, I should give Jule a shameless, off topic plug.....

I am selling a really expensive Hiwatt guitar amp/cab as it is physically huge and I don't play guitar much. I started talking to Jule about a smaller, cheaper replacement and after playing Mesa, Soldano, Fender and Traynor, I ended up buying one of his 40w Paycheck amps.

It sounds killer and my guitarist won't give it back (he plays Mesa, DR.Z and Traynor).

Pretty inexpensive for what you get and it looks like a ginormous dove cage Monique!:hyper:

Worth checking out in any case.:bassist:

Just curious what the dimensions and weight of a Tardis De-Monique are? Also wondered how the headroom and impact of this unit would compare to the GB Streamliner 900? I've been pleased with the heft and tube tone My Streamliner 900 provides but this unit would seem to take it to the next level. I really like that slight bit of tube sag with rich harmonics and a donkey kick to the chest impact when needed. My cabs are a pair of Baer ML112's for a modular rig and an XSonics 2155CF for a single mid-sized monster. Both cabs are mid-loaded with high powered woofers and a controlled low end which deliver the goods and should sound great with a Tardis DeMonique.

According to Jule a few posts above yours a Tardis weighs 9 pounds, and the Demeter power section adds 3 pounds. Not sure on the dimensions. I think they've been posted in the thread but I can't recall.

Cheers,
Liam

One could put in a three way power switch as a mute/standby, but I don't honestly get why we wouldn't want to just roll the level controls off?

I am sure I am missing some utility.

Also, James Demeter requires a different on/off switch for the De-Moniques, so it would not be applicable there.

As to the Tuner Output, that can be done. Probably a small jack that Parallels the XLR balanced out. However, there is a concern here, and that is that we can induce noise. Right now, Monique is dead quiet. Adding extra wire runs and jacks has the potential for inducing noise. I would prefer an external solution.

By example, the first run of Moniques had a True Bypass jack. Great idea. Unfortunately it induced noise in some situations so it had to go.

Thanks, missed that earlier post. Only 12 pounds with that compact form factor is an impressive package.

After waiting 45+ years for this I don't miss any features that would add any noise.

It's a convenience is all - once you have your levels set at a particular venue it's nice to be able to hit a mute button for breaks, to change basses, etc without having to move any knobs - however as others have pointed out, this is also easily accomplished using a pedal tuner that mutes the signal when turned on, so that kinda kills two birds with one stone from my original wishlist :)

We get set in our ways - I'm simply used to plugging directly in with nothing between the bass and the amp, and using a tuner out on the amp to run into my tuner - my tuner is always on that way and it's bright enough that I can usually see it from a few feet away (unless outdoors during the day). Nothing wrong for me to use the method above with an inline tuner to accomplish essentially the same thing though.
