Jule Amps Monique

What would you guys do? I have an original demeter vtbp-201 dbl i might have to put on the chopping block to fund this. The dem is cool: super crisp clean with limited eq. I like it but dont love it. Otoh the mo sounds exactly like my tonal preferences. Trade one in the hand for two in the bush? :eyebrow::D

James Demeter is one of the true gentlemen in this business, and one of its best engineers. I have always admired his work. I admire him.

You've got a good piece of gear there.

Pizzicato on an Ashbory with the sensitivity cranked is a new vista. Where it would add grind to an electric bass this makes it seem like the strings are tauter. It's appears as an added punch. It is a tactile feel like the amp is pushing back. Words fail here.

I was in a session last night and am jubilant about this effect. Because of the Monique's hifi nature dialing this up affects none of the other tone. I love the way you just look at the Monique, think need more mids, dial up more, and everything else is beautiful without the bass or treble changing. It's because of the independence of the controls.

Humm....

I wonder how a racked Monique would sound driving my QSC PLX1804 and Berg NV412?

I haven't bought any new toys in a long, long while.:crying:

I can't imagine it would sound bad, can you? Jim's cabs generally sound pretty good and a PLX should provide enough power I would think. I don't think the second June run is sold out yet... ;)

My order is in and i didnt have to sell my demeter! Looking forward to hearing what the monique is all about :D

At this point i dont have a power amp to run with it. Ill just be sending a feed to the pa my band uses. Anyone else plugging one into the front end of an amp that already has a pre?

Glad to hear all went well.

As to the PA, you should be fine with the XLR out. Some folks now playing Monique in large churches just plug in via a microphone cable on stage.

Any time you add pre-amplifier stages you run some risks. Bass Players require a tone crispness and speed that can get lost in serial front ends. (Has to do with phase shift delay and unnecessary gain) If you can go in via the Effects Return you'll probably like it more.

Congratumanations! :) Welcome to the waiting-line-for-rackmount-Monique-club. ;)

I keep checking the site to see if the faceplate graphics have come in. We're getting close to that June 1st date.

I'm also glad you didn't end up having to sell off your Demeter to fund the purchase...

I'm heading south for all of next week, so when I get back I'll be refreshed for some Monique testing.

My girlfriend keeps making comments with the terms 'rack', 'mount' and 'Monique'. :hmm:

I hear ya... Ive tried that once or twice with other pres and it never sounds right. Ill try the effect return on my Walkabout and see how that sounds. If the sound of monique is nice enough I might just switch back to a pre/power setup. Maybe. :D

Lol... thanks Skies! Im pretty excited. I usually feel like I have to justify my frivolous purchases to myself by trading something in but sometimes you just have to go for it! That Demeter is just too good to let go.

You plan on using yours with a power amp of some sort?

For the past year I've been using the Kern IP-777 with a Peavey IPR-3000 power amp, so in this case, I'll just switch out from a 3 space rack to a 4 space and it will be standard operating procedure. All of it will go on top of this:

So, all in all, I end up with either 2980w bridged for both cabs, or run off each side, ~460w per cab. Or, in other words...what amounts to the worlds cleanest, loudest tube tone. :)

It would sound incredible! Anywhere from Motown to Live @ Leeds. That's just varying touch.

It's Baxandall eq set could give the impression that the Monique is strongly Ampeg SVT like. To me while it can do that and B-15 it is also tube McIntosh and Hiwatt hifi. When you dial up some grit and grind the clear stays there. Aggressive flamenco style chords yield serious distortion. Not transistor type but imagine mile wide Deluxe Reverb or Marshall Plexi with all your bottom.

Look out, y'all!
